The shotgun thread was great and ended up getting the sbe3 (may acquire some more later through the year when inventory picks up). But I want to go ahead and get the new (to me and semi budget) deer rifle situation settled so I can start saving for a go devil and getting on a deer lease next season. As these will be a lot larger saving periods.

Used Tikka T3 in 270. -- $549
Used Savage Model 111 in 300 Winmag. -- $449 (with Bushnell scope on it)
or A new Weatherby vanguard in 6.5 cm. -- $599
They have a few Remington 700's in various rounds but I wanted to go away from Remington on this one and I already have that.

Both Used ones seem to be in good shape, and from a local shop I have known the owner for a long time and he doesn't overprice trashed guns.

I am super unfamiliar with the 6.5 creed more round so I guess that is basically what I am asking about. I decided to go cheaper on the rifle and save for the Leupold later. I know alot of ammo is hard to find, but I am banking on some of the deer loads to become more available in the offseason.

Is the tikka stainless? Are any of them?
300wm will rattle your teeth and you won’t like it more than likely for strictly a deer gun. And that bushnell unless it’s a new one is a 100$ scope sight unseen.
The weatherby V is a cheaper version and strictly from resale will be a loser on that aspect. And you will always wonder if the deer you shot died because of the cripple mor.
Jk I think the 6.5 is a capable round but I would go with the tikka 270

This is what I'd get if its just a deer rifle and those are my options.

The Tikka is black and synthetic but doesn't have any rust or wear marks. The Weatherby is new, I just have never hunted or shot that round and it looked a little small for deer (but I guess it works since everywhere I look people are hunting with it.

I know the Bushnell sucks, I was going to take it off if I got that one and put it on a .22 . I have shot 300 winmag and agree it is probably more gun than I need. I guess I'll look into the 270 tikka t3 (I think its just a standard t3) and the new vanguard. Granted the vanguard is ugly, its like synthetic with black and this blue jaw breaker pattern. Not that it really matters.

Black and blue vangaurd

This is the new Weatherby. Terrible color. I think y'all are right, the .270 and add the leupold is the way to go.

None of the above. Go buy a .308. It was the only deer caliber that was widely available this year. Plus it’s a great round.

I like the .308 round but I love a .270. They go fast at the local shop, as they had a .308 I almost got the other day but I was in shotgun land and figured it had sat there a while and it sold. Let me do some pricing on the difference between the used Tikka and Ruger, savage, and Tikka new in 270 or .308. I appreciate the input to narrow down this to the .270 out of the available options.

Of the available guns you listed, this is your best deer hunting round. All three guns are fine guns. I could live w/ any of them. But the 270 is by far and away the better whitetail deer hunting round. Yeah, 270 ammo's been hard to find this year, but you've got 9 months to find some or start handloading. Good luck. Keep us updated.

Will do. I can't imagine in the summer that deer ammo won't get back to somewhat normal. Plus you don't need that many boxes once you get it zeroed in, unless you like to hoard (which I do lol) but I am more concerned with getting cases of steel shot this year every chance I get.

I get it. I have an old 270 model 700. It’s a great rifle and a great caliber. I just got really fricking frustrated not being able to find ammo this year. I’m getting a 308 this year as it was the only ammo readily available besides 350 legend whatever the frick that is.

E. None of the above (but the Tikka of them).

Go to pawn shops and gun shows until you find an older Sako rifle. I have 4 and haven’t paid over $800 for any of them. Just have to look. Best mass produced rifle ever made. Accurate and like a CD. You can always get your money back out of it.

Stay off Gunbroker and GunsAmerica. They’re stupid high on there. Older ones will all be wood and blued, as God intended a rifle to be. Look for a used Zeiss or Meopta scope. I found a Meopta Meostar R1 3-10x50 the other day for $350. You can’t buy an equivalent quality new scope for twice that. New guns and scopes as a general rule are not the way to go. The best guns most companies made are older. Pre -‘64 Model 70 Winchesters, Tang Safety Ruger M77’s, Remingtons made prior to the mid 80’s are better than the crap they sell now. Be smart with your money.

All they hype over 6.5 Creedmore is nuts,IMO.I know a bunch of people that have them, I almost bought one myself but after a lot of research I decided 7mm-08,.270,.308 are better calibers overall.People think they they’ll get the 6.5 C and be knocking deer over at 500 yds regularly. That’s not realistic unless one does a LOT of practice. The longest shots I have available are 300 yds but I don’t feel comfortable past 250 yds,I’ve only shot 1 that far.I’ve shot several at 200 yds ,I prefer 50-150 yds.

This is better than a 6.5cm. If I was getting a 6.5 it would be a 264 win mag.

I'd get the Tikka 270 out of the guns listed.

Buy the Cripplemore. When the bullets for the Cripplemore bounce off the deer, that’ll give us a whole new thread to post on.

None of the above,

I'd would look for a CVA rifle in 35 Whelen.

If I'm shooting factory ammo, I would go with the 6.5 prc myself.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I really didn't know much about 6.5 creedmore but I chased plenty of deer in my youth shooting a 3030 and I can't image looking at the 6.5 cm that it would be that much better unless you shoot perfect and the deer isn't far (thats not to say it can't drop them, but idk). I'll probably just let these go, as the Tikka doesn't seem that much less than a newer stainless one. I do like trying to get older ones, I need to run back and figure out if I can figure out the year. They have a few Rem 700s in diff calibers used but as I already have one and I am wary of the safety recall and don't wanna mess with a new trigger, I haven't really been looking at 700s.

I just wanna get my goal of a new deer rifle out of the way so I can go down the duck boat rabbit hole. I have a problem with going in shops and wanting to buy everything, I'm sure some of y'all suffer from this as well.
