6.5 creedmoor is fine. Dont let the people that dont know how to shoot scare you away. Those people would have missed no matter the caliber of the gun they were shooting.

That being said, its just a cartridge, there really shouldnt be any emotional attachment to 7-08, 6.5, 308, etc... Theyll all work for these tiny arse deer we have down here.

bullets for the Cripplemore bounce off the deer, that’ll give us a whole new thread to post on.

Can’t number how many times I have helped track with and without a dog hear the person say after not finding the deer “ that’s why I won’t ever shoot this 270, 30-06 , 7mm08 and going back to my 300wm 7mmmag”
I want to say that , if you graze a brisket with a boozuka them MFrs gonna run off

Yeah I get it, I just know basically nothing about the round. I probably will end up getting a 270. I should do a little more research on brands and what not.

ETA: they had a Howa that was new that felt great in the hands and the bolt felt smooth, but I didn't take a pic to remind myself of the price and caliber but I'm pretty sure it was 6.5cm. Deer seasons a ways away next year so I guess if all else I can have my boat savings and deer lease/gun savings going at the same time. Hoping to find a decent used long tail that someone is selling to upgrade or something to learn with and not break the bank, or end up sinking it.

That is what I am gathering. Surely supply will catch back up to demand this year after hunting season.

Well we’re all hoping for that, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t.

I wanted to try some different ammo for my 270.

Tikka 270

Deer tracker around absolutely hates a 6.5 CM, his facebook pages are hilarious. I called him one night and first question was, "Was it with a Cripplemore? No. Good I'll only bring one dog"

Yeah, I'll probably get it soon if it doesn't sell. I wanted to research more before I had him put it back for me. But when I went to pick up the sbe3 I noticed they got a browning .358 win lever action that looks cool.

They have a 7mm/mg by a brand called T/C that is a bit cheaper. I'm really not familiar with deer rifles (beyond the Marlin 3030 and Remington 700s and woodmasters), I've always shot what was handed down or given to me.

ETA: the shop has the Leupold vx3 hd's for $499 which is about what I'm seeing online. I guess I'd need to get that later, or dive down the scope rabbit hole again.

I don't know a whole lot about the 6.5 CM either but a local shop has a used Cooper M54 Excalibur in that caliber I am going to buy on Friday since it's easily the most readily available ammo in my area.

Its bigger than a 243 and smaller than a 7-08.
Its slower than a 243 and faster than a 7-08.

It has a shite ton of factory ammo of all kinds available for it, probably rivaled only by the 308.

It works just like anything if you do your part.

I mainly like the fact that every ammo seller in our area has a plentiful supply of it. That and the fact that most of the guys I hunt with here and in CO are using them.

Just make sure the ammo you get for it is matched for the purpose.

Don't use match ammo for hunting.

Match ammo is the most common ammo available for the 6.5cm. It doesn't perform well in hunting situations and that's why people try to give it a bad name.

I went ahead and bought the rifle today. Swapping a scope from another rifle and I bought a case of Barnes Vor-tx ammo on someone else's recommendation. Someone else was looking at it so I had to go ahead and put it on a credit card just in case.

Co-worker has a Cooper. Fine rifle. I think you’ll be pleased.

I've wanted one forever but couldn't really afford it. The combination of a lightly used one in a caliber with plentiful available ammo and bonus time was too good to pass up.

Thanks for the direction baws. I just went ahead with the Tikka and put a Leupold vx3hd. (I suck at knowing about scopes but I think its a 50 and its like 3x10 or 15 idr). It got bumped after we mounted it in my truck and its not level now so I need to get that fixed.

Noticed a tiny hole drilled in the barrel on the opposite side of the bolt around where the front of the bolt would sit. I guess that is on all of them, I'm guessing for pressure release. Just sorta looked like someone did it after the factory.

Will probably frick around and get a 6.5 or .308 later.

ETA: nvm its on there from the factory. Just weird that it looked like some dust and shavings had gotten down in the magazine from it. Maybe just dust and grime from being shot.

Your scope got bumped and now it’s not level? Did the entire scope turn?

well I didn't think to bring a hard case and just tried to sit it upright between the seat and console like I used to (except this was in an older truck) and it didn't stay too well. I think it wasn't tight and the entire scope shifted in the rings slightly. Like when I look through it its at like a 10-15 degree angle of not being perfectly straight up and down. I think I just need to loosen it and turn the scope and put a level on top.

Mildly annoyed because they bore sighted it and I was hoping I wasn't going to completely be missing paper with ammo like $40 a box.

ETA: I meant the reticle is not straight up and down like it was, nothing internal or major.
