I have an ATACR 5-25x56. It's a big bitch. But such a bad arse scope. Heavy as hell.

But to find the SFP they are all F2.

If they would make a shv 3-18x44 sfp with exposed elevation I would buy 3 of them before they quit making them.

I bought a leupold mk5HD 3.6-18x44. Great scope. The best Leupold scope. It was between this and NF ACTAR. But I don’t want a 5lb scope on my rifle.

That Leupold is a BEAST! It fell 3.5ft into concrete landing on the windage turret. Picked it up , shot, still dead in with no adjustment.

I’ll add another. Trijicon Credo 2.5-15-42. I have on one of my AR’s great glass and good reticle for low light. I have it on my .224 Valkyrie and shoot steel out to 800 yards. It’s right at $1K

It’s well balanced and light for its power range at 22ozs.

Awesome, I have a question for you. I want an accupoint, specifically that reticle in a 1-4. I understand it's tritium and fiber optic illuminated. What's it look like with no fiber optic illumination? I.e. when I'm in a very dark box stand, in the woods, no moon, 1 minute of shooting time left, how's that reticle going to work for me?

Well yesterday evening I went and looked at them in person and made a decision.

Ended up going with a Swarovski Z5i 3.5-18x44 BT with the PLEX reticle.

Thanks everyone for their input! I really appreciate it!

859 for this Swaro should be well worth the money.

I have 4 z3 4-12x50 scopes on assorted guns. I like them a lot and have never had an issue with any of them. They will allow you to hunt past legal shooting time and have just enough magnification for 300+ yard shots. I have both BRH reticles and heavy duplex and each have pros and cons. The z3 is a fine scope. With that said, I now am shooting a z6. It is a whole different animal, but it is also $2500.

ETA: Just read through the rest of the thread and saw you made your purchase. I think you will be happy. One of the few things I regret not purchasing was a like new z5 5-25x52 I found in a pawn shop one time for $800. Still kick myself for not getting it.

Good seeing the love for the Leupold hd scopes. I put one on a rifle I bought a year or so ago. Great scope. I do find the old Leupold vx I have on another rifle gathers light better right at dark.

The tritium illumination is faint but should be fine in a gradual light to dark in deer blind. Your eyes need to adapt to it. In other words a gradual lowering of the light allows your eyes to adapt. A quick change in light to dark isn’t ideal.

Ive heard that's some of the best glass you can get in a scope. Come back and report after you've used it a while.

I try not to make a habit of looking through scopes I can't afford. I only recall looking through one swarvoski. Good shite for sure

Glass is one of those things you’ll never know what you’re missing until you try it, then you’re ruined. I never understood how anyone could justify paying over a grand for binos, it’s not that hard to see a deer, until I looked through a set of swaros.

Supposedly the mark5hd are better scopes than the vx. I’ve heard some complaints on vx. But I can’t attest to it as I’ve never used one. But a scar17 with the BCG forward motion can be hard on scopes and it’s been tested. As for glass. It’s clear but I haven’t tested light transmission at dawn to see. May try it out soon by pulling it off and looking around. I was lucky as I bought this Illuminated version with PR-1 reticle brand new from a pawn shop for $1600 and paid 400 for the QD IMS mount. Just the scope new is $23-2500

I guess I'm an outlier. I have a couple of nice scopes but I don't feel like I'm missing anything when I use a $400 Viper. The quality falls off at a certain price point, probably $300-$500 for a 3-9X these days, but from $500 to $1000 the glass is getting better in pretty small increments (if at all), not big leaps. You start paying for ruggedness and precision boxing moreso than better glass.

Said it originally but the HD glass from japan is getting cheaper every year and it’s a big jump from that lower price point stuff. Not so long ago that wasn’t the case, and there was a massive gap from china to Europe. You’re right though, most scopes these days are made by the same OEMs and the brand on the side of it is just who spec’d out the features, quality control, etc. Really not worth being brand loyal if one or the other has a good model you like.

They finally got their heads out of their asses(and the 80s) and started listening to what people wanted.

Well, they are designed for military and law enforcement with FFP. And they are about double in price from the VX5 scopes.
