The outreach this site has is pretty amazing! Meeting up with BBVD over pigment free coolers, following Fish's pirogue group build, whoop head Dolly, it goes on & on. I love this site.

Motors are where the $$ is at and the mfgr’s wont do a damn thing to help prevent it.
Warren CoCo made you give serial # to get parts at one time and found plenty of hot motors sold cheap.
Absolutely motors are where the money is. When I was in college I lived on a houseboat in North Georgia and there was a rash of stolen motors at marinas in the area...they would pull up to a boat in a slip, cut the controls, unbolt the motors and leave in just a few minutes....and I am not talking portables I am talking about 150s and such....very few outboards bigger than that back then...I was allowed to moor my boat at this marina for free for walking around at night some and doing minor electrical work on the marina and campground...there was never a motor stolen at that marina because it was well known someone was there year round and most nights was out and about...I usually fished while walking to docks LOL. They finally caught 3 guys at another marina...they had a block and tackle and some rope, would climb the rebar/ angle iron columns that the docks were built out of or climb on the roof of a houseboat, get up in the rafters, hang the block and tackle, lift the motor off, lay in the floor of a 26 foot jon boat and paddle out of the marina, crank the gas engine and hot foot it to the boat ramp.....
Trailers are another hot commodity...very easy in most states to register any kind of trailer with the barest of minimal registration papers...

The OB is the shite. Way to go guys. Congrats on getting your boat back.

Good for you to get it back with that little bit of damage. Like someone else posted, I thought you may have gotten the boat back, but sans motor and controls.
Nice work by an alert, honest citizen. Now pop for a nice steak dinner to go with that case of beer. That man just saved you tons of paperwork, dealing with the insurance company and the hassle of finding a new boat to your liking.

What happened to the thieves? Go to jail and out on bond?

As of yesterday afternoon they were still being held in St Charles Parish prison.
