Mississippi River got high as usual for this time of year and is on its way down (36.64 at BR as of this AM), but I have somewhat been keeping an eye on the snowfall in the Midwest and Ohio valleys and it sure seems like they have gotten a lot this year. Anyone have any insight as to how the river's going to be in the Spring?

I think the Corps reported a few weeks ago that 2020 is projected to be a top 10 year for the Mississippi.

It was crazy how quickly it dropped. Is that normal?

River Forecast
This is a link to the 28-day river forecast. That is about all you can count on. Consider these numbers as basically a floor. That is, if it doesn't rain another drop, this is what the River will be. Obviously if a front comes through the Midwest next week and drops 4 inchces of rain, then these numbers will move higher.

Higher and Longer are the new norms in the Lower MS River Valley.

not to steal the thread, but 3 weeks ago I was driving across the spillway and it was completely flooded as if the locks were open. What's crazy is that there is zero news on them opening it. So where is all that river water coming from if the locks are closed?

Wilson and Pickwick Dams on the TN Rivers are both blowing it out right now from all the rain we've had here. Set to get a bunch more tonight and tomorrow as well.

It’s almost like river management techniques and regulations need to adapt.

The spring outlook will be released in 2 days. This for the upper portion but gives an indication of what to expect down the river.

I thought I heard WAFF say Guntersville was pushing hard too. Wouldn't surprise me.

WE crossed below Wilson yesterday and it was amazing how much water was spilling out until we came back across Wheeler. Wheeler was a sight to see. It looked like it was raining on top of the bridge from so much water being let through. And theres a lot more on the way

They don’t have actual gates, they have large timbers they drop in vertically so waters seeps between each timber. Low tech but basically works.
