re: Truck pulls right after new rims and tires...

On the way to work this morninng my TPS sensor light flashed for a bit now it's on full time. I checked the pressures and they were all OK. I guess the tire shop will get the truck again before I get to do a dealership alignment.
Shitty thing is that my son wanted to go drop it in the mud, I promised, right after I go the tires on...now I have to wash the fricker before I bring it in. We didn't go full on mudding, just down a dirt road with some ruts in it.

You're nicer than I am. Any tire guy worth his weight would have test drove and then swapped the front tires. This is what they do "professionally", they shold not have let your truck leave with new tires on it pulling. Especially if it wasn't pulling with the old tires, his stating that your rims "moved" kinda shows his ignorance.
Sorry for the rant. I worked for BMW for a few years, as well as other manufacturers and ran the service dept at Kirk's for a while. It pisses me off when repair/accessory shops pull sh!t like this.
The TPMS light is probably minor...

Good luck finding a dependable tire shop. I've had major issues with multiple ones involving my Jeep and the daughter's Acura. I don't trust any of them.

I took it directly out of the bay...they were closing on a Saturday at noon and it was 12:30 or so. I'll bring it back in this afternoon. All this seems better to be communicated directly rather than over the phone.

That's the issue. 99% of them don't care. The more times you have to come back, the better for them.

The kids that do tires are just a bunch of....kids. Basically all they do are the little shite things that other people don't feel like doing

balance of what? I still don't know what you mean. The tires are smooth rolling at all speeds, it just pulls toward the passenger side. I'm going by the tire shop today to have the reset the TPM system and swap the front two tires. If it pulls toward the passenger side still I'll get an alignment Wednesday morning at the dealership.

Wheels are balanced, and front ends are aligned. Your alignment was done to match the balance of the old wheels.
The new wheels, while balanced, will pull because the alignment is adjusted for the balance of the old wheels.
Technically, I should have said alignment. Nonetheless, by riding newly balanced wheels on an alignment for an old set, you are quickly warping the tread on your new set. Thus, "throwing off the balance".
Long story short, there is a reason people don't have a set of highway tires and a separate set of off road tires. You can not interchange them and expect a quality ride. it doesn't work that way.

Right on, thanks. After choosing a set of all-terrains and loving the look, I'll get an alignment at my dealer visit wednesday morning and leave them on. I'll still get them to swap fronts so I even out the wear until then.

May you now have to live with your truck pulling to one side for the rest of your life as penance for fricking with your stuff all the time.

For sure, I'm not trying to be a smart arse. I had a jeep that taught me this exact lesson. I thought I could just switch out tires and everything would be fine. I soon learned about the "Jeep death rattle". Not cool.

Because it costs too much and it's a pain in the arse to swap them out.
I've never heard of what you're talking about. You don't use alignment to make up for balance. The two are independent of each other.

I think he meqns rims wiylth different offset change alignment. which can happen
but gastons rims are stock yota so it shoildnt matter. swap away.
Ill bet flairs other pinky finger that it's a tire

Depends where you live. I have a set of winter and summer tires for my wife's Highlander. It's really a must in snow country. Once you make the initial investment you essentially go twice as long before having to buy tires again.
Find a good tire shop and get a balance and alignment when they swap out your tires.
Glad I didn't take the winter tires off yet because we got pounded by snow today.
Sidestep but holy frick do winter tires make a huge difference on an AWD street vehicle up here.

FJ wheels do have a slightly more aggressive offset than Tacoma wheels.
The offset, tire size, wheel size, etc. can all be changed without getting an alignment provided that the truck was already in spec. (IF a lift isn't also installed) If his truck was slightly out of alignment the more aggressive offset coupled with a wider more aggressive tire could cause his truck to pull to one side, develop a vibration, etc., that went unnoticed with street tires.
The TPMS light coming on still leads me to believe there is a problem with one of the tires.

What I am talking about is having a smooth riding vehicle, then swapping the tires and being shocked when it doesn't ride the same even though you had the new tires balanced.
Solution: Go get an alignment.

I bought a new Tundra with BFG AT's. They suck in the mud and will serve a purpose as my Summer tires until hunting season when I upgrade to either the BFG MT's or the Nitto mud tires. Then I will swap out after hunting season.
