Need a trailer hitch. I see people with these $300 B&W (or similar) setups. Is there really that much advantage over a 2" drop hitch?

I can’t say if it’s worth it for you but I really really like my B&W tow and stow. You can move it up or down to make the trailer ride level, you can flip it around so you don’t bang your shin, and it has three ball sizes. I don’t think about my hitch, that one covers everything I do. It’s expensive but if someone took mine, I’d order another one immediately and not think about it.

I’ve seen what a blow out on interstate with an 18’ aluminum boat can do to a basic Reese brand receiver hitch. After seeing it bend and look like a hockey stick from that light boat so I purchased a B&W. The weight rating is higher

My dad has the tow and stow so he can lower his tailgate completely without having to take the whole hitch off.

Well, do you need an adjustable hitch?

Do you pull any trailers with a 2 5/16” ball? If not, then you don’t need a hitch with a 2 5/16” ball.

No...go to an auto parts store, buy a "normal" one, profit.

I have an aluminum Rapid Hitch, if not for that I'd need to carry around like 5 different hitches at all times for various trailers. Instead I just pull a pin, adjust to the height I need, flip to the correct size ball I need, and am good to go.

Multiflex tailgate? Because they make hitches just for the flex gate.

I sell about 600 of those a year w/o any issues. The black will fade after a while though.

I love my B&W. I have three trailers with different tongue heights. Never have to remove it, just adjust the pins to what I need. Worth the investment.

I debated the same thing and decided to just buy the B&W three ball. But once— cry once. Now I never have to think of which hitch I have on or if I have the right size, it’s just there when I need it.

I like my GEN-Y Mega-Duty. I have the 5" drop, 3 position one. I like the 3 - 2" slot openings. I have a Pakmule cargo carrier, and when I use the trucks 2" receiver I can't fully open my tailgate because it hits the Pakmule rails. But I can insert the Pakmule in the second slot of the Gen-Y and everything is fine. Also, you can add a pintle attachment and I like the solid shank and all welded balls.

One con of the GEN-Y is the finish. I sanded and painted mine myself and it's much better.

Below pics sort of show what I mean by different slots

I have had a straight receiver/hitch for 40 years. Recently I bought the B&W and love it
