Lil surprised by some but guess it could just be a lot of people not reporting there kills.

Madison being that low and no Concordia.

This looks like total numbers.

Quantity versus quality

Not as much habitat in the farm land parishes but better food supply. Tensas has moved up in habitat due to CRP and a rather large refuge that kills large numbers of deer. Union parish slaughters deer on doe days at the management area and private land.

Yes and no, there is a lot of private land that doesn't get hit hard. This increases the deer population where they move over on leased land and get killed. There are blocks of private land where I see 20 or more deer in herds. I had as many as 15 does under my feeder last year and saw atleast 5 or 6 every time I sat there. I have another satand where I saw 17 does one evening. These stands boarder private land. I shoot does but I can't only kill 2 on our hunting club due to DMAP.

I wonder if this includes deer shot from the levee at night. I know there are some big deer south of Baton Rouge near Sunshine.

Not surprised at all. The better the place, usually the lower #s. I was in a great club once where we had to beg people to shoot does. We had about 17 members and rarely had over 5 bucks killed. Contrast that with your basic $500/year brown it's down pine thicket club. Makes perfect sense.

Morehouse is the one that sticks out as being the farthest off to me. It should be top 5 in kills. Granted it's mostly fawns and 3 pts, but rednecks drag piles of em out of those pine thickets. Plus it's a big parish of almost nothing but woods. The river parishes have great deer hunting but the people are generally more selective and the majority of the land is in fields.

I find it hard to believe Caddo nor Lincoln made this list. I know of 2 processing places in Lincoln Parish that said they do between 3 and 4 thousand a year. Which reminds me, I need to call in my tags from last season.

Most hunters I know in Madison and Tensas do not kill alot of deer. They are looking for the big wall hanger and may only kill 1 or 2 deer a year.

IOW, your basic redneck "hold my beer while I smoke this deer" type of place?

My uncle used to be a member of the Lottie Hunting Club and always invited me to go hunt there, but I never took him up on his invitations. Too late now!

Was the member from Alexandria? There were also a few big shots from LDWF who were members of this club. One was Richard K. Yancey, who now has a WMA named for him.
