Freedom Arms is the highest quality modern single action and it isn't even close. FA is a small company.

That's why I gave them the honorable mention, great guns that most will never own...

S&W copied Colt therefore they are out of the running IMO.

The Rolex of Handguns. My Smith model 14-3 will punch similar paper as a Korth and cost me $400. The are fine pieces of craftsmanship but not worth the $$$.

So funny, you guys all bash Taurus pistols and in those threads you often see "now their revolvers are really nice but their pistols are just crap"

That being said, I would suggest that the only company to really come out with anything new or cutting edge in modern revolver design would be Chiappa

They may not be to everyone's liking, but the idea of a low cylinder barrel to place recoil at a better ergonomic location makes perfect sense.

at the moment I only own one revolver and it is a ruger

Colt was the first manufacturer to develop and sell a swing out cylinder double action revolver.

Colt no longer manufactures double action revolvers in any capacity however.
I believe every now and then the Colt custom shop will make a very small run of Pythons

ETA: after being discontinued from regular production, the custom shop made a a few runs...of which the last batch was 2005

Nope they are done. They barely have enough spare parts available to repair old guns.

The Python is gone forever.

So they copied a feature and made improvements to it. Either way its not really relevant for comparison with modern designs, which is what we're discussing here. The modern smiths and colts operate pretty differently.

Current production revolvers from S&W are a shadow of what they used to be. Quality is not there in the finish, etc. plus they have a lock.

Rugers have a lock, too, don't they?

But I tend to agree - Mrs. Midnight has a Performance Center snub nose, all steel, 8-shot (CQB is what they called it) 627, in .357 magnum and the revolver is nearly flawless. Unfluted cylinder, ball detent lock up, as crisp a single action trigger as I have ever experienced in a revolver, with a smooth double action pull as well (better than a stock Colt Python, although to be fair, PC isn't necessarily stock). And no lock (made prior to S&W's deal with the devil.)

In any event, I easily see this revolver being passed down to great-grandchildren and beyond. A usable work of art, but nothing in the display cases at Academy (or wherever) come close to this revolver in fit and finish.

I like every revolver that Ruger makes.

At the last comp I watched, there was one Ruger. Every other one was S&W. No idea if that reflects sponsor involvement or quality.
