We decided to book a last minute family getaway to Toledo Bend. I’ll be bringing the boat but I’m a little nervous to run the lake as I’ve never been there and have heard the horror stories. We’ll be staying on the TX side just north of the bridge. Any recommendations or possible videos of where to avoid and pointers for boating/fishing Toledo Bend?

Holly Park? Usually real good white perch (sac a lait) fishing there.Haven’t been there in a long while, but that’s the rep.

We’ve got a VRBO cabin rented. I honestly don’t know the name of the area we are in. It’s the first cove just north of the bridge on the Texas Side.

That's a great area. Have had terrible luck in July though. I would probably cruise looking for schooling fish.

I’ve only been a boat passenger but it seems there are “lanes” that are marked off due to underwater dead trees. I’m sure someone will be along shortly with more knowledge of the lake. I love TB, had a lot of good times there at the camp.

Got back yesterday after a week out there. Hotter than hell. Not another boat anywhere. Only advice I can give you is fish lights at night. It’s your best bet.
Crank baits for bass and big white bass.
Catfish noodles during the day.
It’s not worth the 20 min bass bite in my opinion to get up at 5:00 am just for the first 20 mins of shallow water small spotted bass.

Been there a dozen times and I'm still a newbie. Boat lanes are very well marked. If you aren't in a boat lane, idle until you figure out what's safe and what isn't.

Fishing is spectacular but frustrating at the same time. Every inch of the place looks like the b3st looking shite you've seen in your life.

Crappie are deep in brush piles during the hot summer months. If you have good electronics, search for brush/logs in 25-35 feet of water and look for fish on them. Tight line with a shiner or jig.

Make sure you have a few sexy Shad deep diving crankbaits for schooling bass and a monkey butt colored whopper plopper for early mornings and late evenings.

Best crappie fishing I ever had was Toledo Bend in January. Using jigs, tossing from a houseboat tied to the pier

Get a guide. If you’ve never been there before, this is obviously your best bet to catch any fish. You can drink beer and catch perch off a party barge.

You're in an great area for white perch and time of the year. First thing morning you should through white and red baits. Shad spawn is right now and this is the best time of the year for an early morning top bite on a plug to me. Jerk baits lethal as well.

Middle of the day bounce the pilings on the bridge with shiners. When you find 2/3 you'll find your limit of sacalait.

Just stay on the boat road and you'll be fine. I grew up the lake and never hit a tree. Dudes think it's like any other lake but it's a flooded river bottom. If you aren't on the boat road you can hit a tree. Can't tell you how many times I've seen someone come off the boat road going 40 mph and smoke a tree too

With it being this hot wait until about an hour before dark to go then fish until you get tired, 2-3 am.

Bass fishing at night in the summer is greatness

There will be plenty of boat docks/piers/restaurants with lights on them, once it get's dark they will be easy to see. It will also be nice and not 1000 degrees

Start way out where you can barely cast to the light ring with a big "black" Texas rigged worm, work your way in slowly and fish to the dock and under it.

Between the docks on "dark banks" through a huge black spinner with one #5 copper blade (google Hildebrandt Premium Blades) or a buzzbait. I like the spinner bait, you can feel it thumping with the big blade.

Make sure you have a good spotlight for navigation, you should be able to stay close to your camp in that area

Got a house out there and stay up there a lot.

Heck by the bridge they use to have grass beds, you can catch a bass or two.

Crappie are deep on brush piles.

I have not been lately as I been sick.

Heard the water was up, so you can fish shallow or deep.

Usually fish morning, evenings, night, and cloudy days to beat the heat. Rest during the heat of the day.

Negative ghost rider. Lake is not up. It’s several feet lower than last July. And was low then...definitely not up.

You are correct it is falling.
A lot of spots up North are dry or low.
Usually I do well up there in the spring.

It still fishable in a lot of deep and shallow spots in Mid lake and the South.
Around 168 and dropping which there are still a lot of places to fish.

In the fall of 2011 that was low around 160 or 159.
One of the few launches open was Sam Force Collins by the Dam on the Texas side.
You could launch and then moved a few feet where only to have to get across a sandbar.

My advice ask the people up there and drive to the launch that is close to the area you want to fish.
