I used to have a 40HP 2 stroke on a 1652 Allweld. Was a great motor but it used a lot of gas. Currently have a 115HP fuel injected and it is awesome. Came with a 4 year warranty. Powering a 20’ Aluminum CC and you better be holding when I hit the throttle. Good motors.

Buddy bought a used one, 2008 I believe, tiller handle 50. We call it the drug runner. It's on a 17 foot alweld and will push 4 in a boat with gear and dog with no problem.

I had a 50 horse Tohatsu on a used boat I purchased in 1992. The only issues the thing gave me were issues I induced by taking poor care of it and those didn't surface for a decade or so. I just got rid of the boat last year, sold it to my nephew. It had a few issues but they were the result of crap in the tank. Pulled out the tank and pressure washed it, let it dry and hooked it back up. Still runs like a top.
In that size range, they were great outboards.

We use them on our seine boats on the catfish farm.
They outlast and outperform Yamaha and mercury by a mile

If "Never heard of Tohatsu" isn't a reason to pull someone's OB posting privileges, it really should be.

I know plenty of people who swear by the smaller Tohatsu motors. I had a 9.8hp for a while. Ran great. A friend of mine has a 30hp. I like it better than my Yamaha

I've got a bunch of hours on the newer 50 hp 4 stroke. I have had two little issues but nothing that required a trip to the dealer. Just ran it 70 miles, almost all of those miles at 4700rpm. When I filled up on the way home it took 7 gallons of fuel.
Building another skiff this year and it will be getting another MFS50. Very pleased with this outboard.

tohatsu/nissan are the lightest weight outboards you can buy by a good margin
Tohatsu - 250 HP is 619lbs
Yamaha - 250 HP is 562lbs
Suzuki - 250 HP is 606lbs
Mercury - 250 HP is 527lbs
The 6cyl Tohatsu/Honda outboards are the heaviest on the market. I’m repowering my boat in a few weeks and looked at the Tohatsu’s, they were just too heavy for my boat.
Maybe you were referring to the smaller (4cyl below) outboards that are the lightest on the market?

He is probably talking about the smaller ones.
Most of the smaller ones below a certain HP is made by Tohastsu anyway.
Nissan, recently Evinrude, and Mercury are some of the brands that Tohastsu builds the smaller motors for.
Kyle at Lake Area Marine in Lake Charles has done a great job promoting and packaging the smaller Tohastsu motors on Alweld boats.
Knock on wood mine been a great boat and no problems so far.

Great motor! I have a 50 hp on my Havoc and have put that thing through hell. Will buy another when or if this one fails.

I have two 70hp Tohatsu I've been trying to kill for 14 years. Indestructible.

Pretty much every outboard under 25hp is a Tohatsu.

anyone familiar with this brand?
Yep
Great engines
I believe they are under the Nissan umbrella.
Had a 70hp on a 16’ Cobia years ago. Left it down in Buras during Katrina, last I saw if it.
Man that thing would haul arse...
