For those that don’t know, at its core, a solunar table is a way of predicting wildlife activity based on the moon phases and sunrise/sunset times. Modern apps also use things like barometric pressure and weather changes to predict whether a certain day and time will be good for hunting based on animal activity.

I’m still new to the subject, but downloaded one of the many apps a few weeks ago to see what it’s all about. So far it’s been pretty spot on. I’ve compared the app rating to the deer I see at dusk outside my window. Today is rated as ‘96% Excellent’ and I would concur. No less than 30 deer within view, typically I see about half that number.

Curious as to others’ thoughts and opinions as well.

I’m not gonna skip a hunt because it doesn’t line up. I may be a little more optimistic about a hunt based on it

It’s called Fishing and Hunting Solunar Time. I use the free version which lets you see the past week up to tomorrow, paid version lets you see further.

I agree with the above as well. Not sure I’ll let it completely dictate my hunts but given I have ample hunting time it may steer me in one direction over another.

Not useful enough to use. Hunt when you don't have to work. Simple!

… deer always gotta be someplace though ...right? no matter what the Moon, Sun and weather are doing, they are someplace.

That's the app you need...one that tells you where they are at, that day.

full moon.. high pressure moving in, sunrise at 6:15 am...they gonna be on the north end of a corn field.

That would be a good app.

If you have the luxury of hunting whenever you want, it can be useful. For those of us that have to work for a living, can't really afford to not go when you can.

When you hunt pressured public land, moon phase doesn't matter as much as wind and other things that can give you away. I'm more concerned with the wind than where the moon or sun is.

Now, the barometric pressure and weather patterns are important considerations, no doubt. If you've got a front coming through after some warm days, that may be just the thing to get the deer moving.

Find the Wired to Hunt podcast recent episode with Mark Drury and then download DeerTrack.

You’re welcome.

One summer we fished trout by every weekend and did really well. You could leave the dock at 10am and be back at 2pm with limits. But now I just have to go when I have the time.

Deer it seems to help know when they will be moving all night. Never seemed to line up with day movement for me.

If weather is stable they can be deadly accurate.......

Depends on where you are. I tried it for a few of my locations in Louisiana, and then deleted the app. Had none of the information. Even looked at Tensas and there was nothing. Checked a spot in Kansas just to see, and it was working there. No info for Louisiana.

I’ve kept an eye on tables the last few years and have not seen any correlation with deer movement.

They don't really work for high pressure areas IMHO. The best predictor of lots of movement (that I've found) is weather

I work for a living as well, I’m just lucky in that I can adjust my schedule most of the time to make a hunt work if I need it to. But you make a good point.

I don’t hunt public land, and I do agree weather has more importance than anything else. I was just surprised to see it has ‘worked’ as well as it has in the last couple weeks. Excited for the season and just like the conversation, mostly

Damn really?

I hunt in a relatively remote area of SE Oklahoma and it has it pegged perfectly.
