Some people think there is no sport in it. I think there are variables involved: how big is the property, is it bow hunt only, are there feeders and do you hunt them?

If its +1000 acres, you bow hunt only, you only feed during offseason and plant food plot or you don't hunt the immediate area of the food source, its a majority mature timber, then it is still hard to kill some of the wily bucks. Any of those variables taken out, I start to respect the process less.

is it kind of like the stocked farm pond of deer hunting?
Kinda. You can control the quality of deer, diet, and age. There is also the added ease of hunting an animal you know is withing a certain fenced area.

That's a big buck for ferriday, they usually don't get that big over there, because my kind shoot everything that walks or use deer hounds.

Actually, that is one of the biggest producers of trophy bucks in the state.

no way out. Some people only capture native deer when they fence their property and then manage for years culling the less desirable bucks hoping to get only good genetics. Problem with this is there will always be culls because you cant tell what doe has bad antler geneticists.

Some area artificially inseminate does with semen from bucks like the one pictured above and several others. They also purchase does that have been born from other genetically superior breeding pairs at deer farms.

Most times, a biologist comes in and tells you what you need to keep in the fence before it is installed. May not be the case with some, but the one I know about, they left about 20 native does from the area, and bought 8 140-160 class bucks and released them.

they just don't grow like that in Louisiana

They just don't grow them like that in MOST of Louisiana. Up where this was killed, there are huge deer killed like this every year. NE LA has some monster deer. Several of the largest whitetail deer killed in Louisiana were taken in this part of the state in or around the Tensas National Wildlife Refuge.

Anywhere close to the Sip can produce some big deer. Quite a few studs up in Arkie get taken out between Eudora and Lake Village too. Always heard it's that delta soil.

This thread is hilarious. Ya'll are acting like 223 happens a lot in other places. They don't grow that big ANYWHERE in the world. Yes the % is lower here, but a buck that scores 223 from Canada, TX, midwest, SE is incredible and a rarity.

Dumbest post in this thread.

There's many places in LA that produce huge deer.

There's 200"+ nontypicals killed on the river in ms damn near yearly...its not exactly common, but its not as rare as you'd think.
