Not like compound bows slinging arrows at 300 pfs is truly superior to someone going with a crossbow.

Shoot a crossbow. I don't care. My Dad shoots a crossbow because he can't pulled back a bow anymore (He is 70 and had surgery on this shoulder).

But this is dumb. No magnification and the act of drawing back are the 2 major disadvantages of trad and compound bows that crossbows do not have.

I think crossbows are fine, I just think they should be treated more like primitive rifles than bows.

You’re good! 3 lost deer in 25 years, hell I’ve lost 3 in 5 days once. Just keep shooting, it’ll get better.

I shot the same bow for about 12 years when I decided to switch over to a crossbow, so I went all out when I bought mine. I have a Ravin R29x sniper. I put a meopta scope on it and out to 80, it's crazy accurate. If I spend more time with it I should be able to get it on out to 100. I know you don’t want to spend $3,500, but there are cheaper ravins like the R10 and R20. I bought mine online from wyvern creations. I recommend checking them out. They sell bows with different packages that will save you a lot of money over buying from the local places.
The ravins are awesome because the crank cocking system makes life so much easier and you don’t have to worry about a decocking bolt. They’re really fast and accurate, and they’re slim and light weight. Mines 29” long and 6” wide when cocked. The R26 is even smaller. So they’re easy to pack and easy to maneuver in a stand.

I have 2 compound bows but because of work and living so far away from my family land I seldom get to hunt like I want to so I only hunt with rifles now but I’ve been thinking of getting a cross bow to use since I have limited hunting time

I would still use my compound, but ok to get the xbow too.

Like turkey hunting, and like learning to master a recurve bow, you have to disect what went wrong, and make changes.

So important it is to get away from the crowds, away from popularity trends, get alone, no cell phone, clear head, and analyze what went wrong.

Alot of times it is mental. I started reciting the alphabit at full draw. Takes my thought off of panic, and slows the adrenline rush. Think of something off topic like sharpening lawnmower blades.

Be able to beat pressure. Your buddies done stuck 2. You zero so far. So what. Let January 31 come and still be zero. So what. But you passed some iffy shots and did not wound & lose a deer.

Xbow good for fast paced rut action. Not a give the compound bow up substitute.

I switched to crossbow 3 years ago because of a shoulder injury and love the flexibility. I popped a Meopta Optika6 1-6x24 scope on mine and I couldn't be happier. I have taken 2 gobblers and 1 doe.

The link below is the best review that I've found on the Benjamin Pioneer Airbow. Includes a video explaining how the airbow works and showing a hunter killing a deer with it.

There is also a section in the article below near the bottom with 3 links to other sites that attempt to show where it is legal. One of the links is to Pyramid Air where you can click on your state on a map for AirGun law. For Louisiana, if the Airbow is treated like an air rifle then there are six animals you could hunt with it in Louisiana (Armadillo, Coyote, Feral Hogs, Rabbit & Squirrel). On the Pyramid Air Louisiana Map there is also a link from it to Louisiana Division of Wildlife. I went to it, but can't seem to find any mention of using the Airbow.

Left shoulder couldn’t lift up past a certain point. Started using cross bows and haven’t looked back. People will give you shite, but seriously, frick them. I had a cheaper centerpoint 370, killed a nice 9 point. Wanted something nicer and got a Barnett Hyper Ghost 405, love it. Super fast and no deer shot has gone past 45 yards stone dead. Good luck and don’t let any of these asshats call you a puss, just enjoy the woods baw.

i use an excalibur micro 335, and i love it. i put a hawke scope on it and switched to black eagle bolts with brass inserts in the front end of the bolt.
i had a limb break in september during a practice session and excalibur mailed me two new limbs and a new string in two days. didn’t cost me a cent. i emailed a picture to the warranty dept, called them, and they were super supportive!
i put the new limbs on and tightened the string myself and was back to shooting in 30 minutes. scope was still dead on.
my xbow is three years old.

So what is so PRIMITIVE about your compound bow? Or a 35 whelen instead of a true muzzleloader? Dont bad mouth crossbows when they are legal to use in a state. Maybe you should shoot a longbow or recurve yourself

My dad lost 3 deer in one year and none of the shots were terrible. He decided to go with a crossbow and he absolutely loves it. I rag him as often as possible but he still loves it. I’m in the “if it’s legal and you like it, go for it” crowd.
I don’t think I’d get the same rush in those final moments so I’m going to stick with a compound. I’ve lost 3 deer with my compound that I hit and I think about them all the time. Don’t get too discouraged about your lost deer, it’s unfortunately part of hunting.
If anyone tells you it isn’t, they haven’t shot at enough animals or they are lying. Deer move, hunters flinch, things happen in the moment. On top of that, some deer are just tough. Everyone has a story about a double lunged deer that runs a mile.

All so true. Some " what went wrongs " can be righted, if analyzed and changes made.
One big one is knowing when its just not a good shot, and passing. Another is broadhead sharpness. They don't touch themselves up.
During the pre rut and rut, you will have many young bucks trailing does, pushing them. Always on that non stop mission, past you. The xbow is good for this quick action. The mature bucks will also IF the doe is in esterous.

I would not give up the compound. I might add an xbow in the toolbox, mainly for rut action. But analyze what went wrong. Your heads. Pressure. Am i being pressured by friends to take shots i ought to pass ? Trying to keep up with Jones? Silly fawn bleep noise to try to stop them, like on TV ? Break away from all that and become Jeramaya in the Yukon.

that is one of the first videos i watched when i heard about the airbow. after watching it, i went to the end of the internet trying to find out more information about it. after doing the research, i learned they werent legal in texas at that time. that wouldnt change until 2019. i still want one. now that its legal, i will probably purchase one soon.

thanks for that link.

Been shooting a wicked ridge invader for the past 10 years. Have had plenty of success with it including a nice 8 pt this year. I recently upgraded to a Ten Point Turbo. I like the acudraw system and I stayed with ten point because of the durability of the lesser quality wicked ridge made by ten point. Plenty of deals out there just need to do some looking.

Bottom line, hunt with what makes you comfortable. Life happens and hours to practice is not always available. Having the crossbow as an option allows you to hunt when not feeling good about the compound bow.
