the civilian AR15 is for all reasonable purposes functionally identical to the standard issue combat rifle
well an AR-15 is literally NOT "functionally identical" to a combat issue rifle since the combat issue rifle is full-auto capable.

"its not a rifle its a brace!!!"
no...its a fricking rifle. it shoulders, operates and fires exactly like a rifle
"an AR is not the same as an M4!!!
yes...yes they are the same thing, they shoulder, operate and fire exactly the same way. they are the same regardless of label
there are these things called laws/rules that define things. Such as rifles, braces, AR's and M4's.

give an inch they will take a mile. You are the reason gun rights are in danger.

Completely wrong.
Stop playing their game.

I get his point. At least as I understand in another post further down. I don't care if it's identical to a weapon of war. I have the right to own a weapon of war. It's the point of 2a. By arguing these aren't the same wins the current discussion, but then weakens the stance that we shouldn't have things restricted for our own safety. Give an inch more (since we've already given too much to the ATF) and we will have to get a tax stamp for our pocket knives.

You can have both, if you know what you're talking about.
Letting anti-gun idiots win the small points is exactly what they want. Incremental erosion is their strategy, and we've been letting them win for decades.

No it is not, BUT a civilian version is available from HK, the MR556.

you guys playing strawman games are part of the reason that all of our gun rights are and remain in danger
OH, that's the reason. You fell for the "Let's just take away a few rights, common sense gun control" farce.
Let's ban cars that go over 65 mph, for sure cause 5 to 10x's more deaths from speeding cars than military style rifles.
Alcohol. Ban that shite too.
Handguns cause at least 10x's more deaths.
Why are they attempting to ban one segment that is responsible for less than 500 deaths a year?

So then you agree civilians should have access to M4’s, belt fed M249 SAW without license or special tax?

Absolutely. How else are we going to do exactly what the founding fathers intended when they wrote the 2nd? Defend ourselves against a tyrannical government.

Gotta float new laws to "save duh chillren" despite the fact that they are unwilling or unable to enforce the laws that are already on the books.
If the gun nuts actually gave a shite about the children they'd be demanding that everyone fill in their swimming pools.
Warning!!! Anecdotal alert!
I am retiring next month after 29 years of law enforcement - all of it on road patrol. During all of that time, I have never been dispatched to or responded to an accidental shooting of a child with a firearm. I've been to probably 10 drownings or near drownings of kids in pools. If do-gooders really cared about kids, it seems to me there's other things to go after/restrict.

The gas operated civilian semi auto rifle/carbine is here to stay regardless of what individual legislators do or not do. There is no putting that horse back in the barn.

Getting mad about someone calling an AR an assault rifle is stupid. That’s what it was designed to be. And we should be able to own said assault rifle in semi auto, full auto, whatever else.

No, it isn't.
Pretending an AR-15 is "for all reasonable purposes identical" to an M4 is wrong.
Honestly, it's a slightly less idiotic version of "bump stock creates an automatic weapon," "ghost guns with 30-caliber clip to disperse thirty magazine clip in half a second,” and "pistol braces create illegal concealable SBR."
These people are idiots, and they should be called out for not knowing what they're talking about. If we won't, bullshite like "weapons of war" becomes accepted as fact when it isn't.

They are, in fact, idiots. Arguing with an idiot is stupid. This bill that they’re introducing for the second (at least) time is what happens when people point out that the AR is a semi auto just like plenty of other rifles and the only reason those rifles aren’t being attacked is because they have wood furniture and aren’t scary. Well, now they’re trying to ban them all. Congrats…you’ve convinced them that AR doesn’t stand for assault rifle so they’ll just bundle all gas operated semi auto firearms together as assault rifles since they’re functionally the same.

An idiot's vote counts just as much as mine.

You think this is a result of people being corrected on their misunderstanding about a particular firearm?
Really?
