Since it seems to be warm every time I hunt in recent years, I am considering taking the plunge and getting myself a thermacell. I hear they are very effective….does anyone have recommendations on what model to get or anything else I should know? I plan to use it in a duck blind.

Pretty sure they all have the same effectiveness, regardless of model, etc. 100% sure that they are well worth more than they cost.

Just get the model that's your preferred color or size and be happy w/ it. On a side note, when I go to the shooting range, my Thermocell seems to be less effective in the past couple years than it used to. Has anyone had the same experience?

I see there are a couple of consumables that you have to buy to operate it. How long do “scent pads” last? How long does the little butane canister last? Do you have to replace these products every day?

No --the pads work till they change color from blue to white. Pads last 4 hours. The gas works/lasts about 10 -11 hours. Turn on, light flame, and it works---After it has been on for 45min or 1 hour --Turn off till bugs come back..If you use intermitting off/on -You can use many times. I have stored mine for weeks and started it.

the canister cost, IMO, makes using a thermocell for more than occasional use impractical.

UNITL you hack your canisters then you can refill them.

buy this amazon

do this. youtube i used a wood screw and pliers.

then you can use these to refill walmart

then you can ebay generic repellant pads like these for way cheaper ebay

youre welcome.

stopped using mine cause even thought it's awesome, i just couldn't justify the extra cost over spray. might gave to this this a try.

and 8oz can of butane is 3 bucks.....you can refill over 16 times when a 4 pack cost 12 bucks. I dont care anymore when my wife leaves them on over night and they burn out.

Have about 8 or 9 thermocells. Was in a waterfowl hunting club for years and you rotated numerous properties ver 2 counties often. About 2 or 3 times a year there would be a thermocell left hanging in the duck blind by someone that hunted the blind before.

I ended up purchasing the $30 model because it came with the holster (which I would have had to buy anyway).

I’m a little nervous about all of this butane in my blind bag. If I partly use a butane cartridge and turn the unit off for the day, is there any danger of it leaking down before the next day?

Using one now in a box stand in Tensas, very effective. Essential during early teal season. Otherwise, I use spray if I'm not sitting on my butt and moving around stalking.
