How much time would it save to use 14' sheets in the place of 2-8'ers?
Posted on 4/23/14 at 9:57 pm to CHEDBALLZ
If we can find out where the 14' sheets come from, we might be able to get a lumber store near Fish to order and deliver saving everyone a ton of trouble...

Sounds like a fun time

Found this online, I don't know if these prices are accurate. With a 14' sheet we only need 1 sheet instead of 2 per boat, correct?

14' sheet of marine quality plywood will cost approx. $98. This can be ordered from Robichaux's Lumber Yard (see below).

OK people, lets try to set the date. May 10 weekend I think is Mothers Day weekend. Don't think that will fly. It looks like the weekend after that could work. Y'all let me know
If this is the week end that works for everyone then that is for the best. Sadly the weekend of the 17th I will not be able to attend as I am on call.

Please let me know if the date changes.
FWIW my wife would be happy for me to travel on mothers day weekend and put her up in a hotel all day while I take the boys and go learn how to make art with a purpose.

A hour at most. One just comes out with a cleaner boat.

That would be sweet at that price. I will give them a call today.
BP, I just don't know how many would be able to do this on the 10-11. For me, it wouldn't be a problem. My Mom had passed away. Today makes it three years and I miss my Mom.

As far as all the other lumber besides the plywood, I can get that local for everyone.
Ok. For those that want to come, contact me at:
pirougebuild@gmail.com
Leave me your contact info, phone number too.
Lets make this happen. It has me pumped which is a very good thing for me.

Pirouge building, drinking, camping, maybe a little music? I smell an Outdoor Board first annual "Fish Fest '14" in the works...

OK guys, I been outside all day. Kid y'all not. And it was great. Even put down a six pack of 16 oz'er.
Looking at the email I put up, boy nothing like 4:30am doing things.
Anyway, Got ten reply's. For most, the weekend on the 17th is out the question. As I though, Mother's day would be hard. The first weekend of May can't work for me.
Of the ten people, most want to build. That's great. So, if the weather is good, there is a very good chance we can get these boats built in one day. It used to take me 8 hours, but, oh well. Guess I'm getting old.
So, the plan date will be May 10. For those that can't make a second day, we will finish your pirogue the next day if we don't finish the first. look at putting in a long day for the first day. If you don't want to leave it, I will give full instructions how to finish. To save a bunch of time, I will cut the bow stems before hand, but I will show everybody how it's done.
Now for tools. Wood clamps will be in need. 3" are fine or bigger. We will need 8-10 per boat. That many. Wood planes, if you have them, we will need them. I only have two. Beltsander, if you have one, we will need it. Hammers of course.
Maybe a drill or two. I have everything else.
Supplies. How y'all want to do this? I didn't get a chance to call down to Racelane, but will do the first thing in the morning. I already have two sheets of plywood and glue. I will dig up were I got the glue later. Cost wise was around $35 shipped, I think. Good thing is that we can order larger sizes, but will have to check.
Hell, got to piss.

Glad you had a great day, weather was awesome to spend it outside. May 10, I am in. I will start trying to borrow as many wood clamps and a belt sander.
I have a 4 gallon RV works deep fryer if y'all want to do a fish fry that evening?

Could put a gill net in my pond, but the grass is out of hand right now.

Don't over do yourself, I am sure we can come up with enough fish to throw in the fryer, but if you are feeling up to it, it sure is fun, throw out a few jug lines too
