I had a canoe that I bought for fishing but the paddling got old quick and I ended up barely using it because I hated paddling. After getting a Hobie, I fish 3-5 times a month now out of it because its so easy to get around and the seat in a PA is comfortable to sit in all day. Demo a couple models you like and bite the bullet and get what you want. I think Everything Kayak does 12 months interest free if that makes it easier to bite the bullet on a pedal drive.

Yeah I’ll definitely go over to gulf port and check them out

Might end up with this one - Hobie 2020 mirage passport 12

There's one of those on Facebook Marketplace in Lafayette for $1200 if you're willing to travel.

Pretty damn heavy at 95lbs (assuming that's without the optional pedal drive), but price looks good.

A good kayak cart makes that a non-issue. I bit the bullet and got a C-Tug with Sandtrax and it makes moving my 125lb Predator easily a one man job.

That’s a fricking hybrid between an
ATAC and a Radar
But I like the layout and that AirPro seat is very comfortable and the helix is solid, had no major issues with it on my Radar
My biggest bitch I had was the rudder system is shite and doesn’t look like they addressed it
It’s just not deep enough in the water to move a large rig

The rudder on my Manta Ray sucks bad. I really should upgrade.

Been waiting on that to drop. Really like that. I’ll give it a look vs the slayer max if I upgrade next year. That helix drive and the deployment system have been tweaked to be much improved I hear.

What happens when you hit something with it? I love that the Native pops up.

I always thought the propeller was smallish when I saw the Helix. Did you ever feel like it was slow?

Just bought my first yak an Ascend 10ft for 400$. Took it down the amite on a 12 hr cruise with a good buddy. Looking forward to paddlin around SE louisiana a bit more. Seat is legit - you can take it out and use it as a camp chair on the riverbanks... I'd post pics but I never got the hang of it here

I love the stowed position on the Helix Drive. I love the propel drive for its ruggedness and functionality but it doesn’t stow well out of the way when you’re either skinny or in heavy grass

Agreed I used to just leave it up when getting skinny and prop my paddle up against it

Heavy grass

But unfortunately this was the downfall for me and a prop driven drive, just got really tired of cleaning it out
Yes it can still work it just a pain in da arse doing it over and over

Do y'all have any hoist recommendations for hanging a yak in the garage?

Brother and I are looking at getting into kayaking, but can't find any used ones online and ended up looking through this thread and found someone talking about alibaba.

Anyone ordered or have thoughts on them? I'm able to find some that are 300-500ea, only needing to order 2-3 as well.
