Well...yeah.

Back in my night fishing days there, that's all i did when i was in a hurry-troll from one lighted dock to the next.

A buddy has one, to my knowledge he's only used it once, maybe twice. Yes it extends your range but when you get to a spot to fish seems maneuvering a kayak around would be a ton easier.

The one time I know he used it was to scout Big Lake for a tournament, he drug my buddy in his PA across the lake and back, they put nearly 40 miles on the Solo that day. Launched at Heberts, worked up north to Turners, crossed the lake, south in the ship channel, hit Joes Cove, kept going south and got just about to West Cove and decided to start working their way back. Back up the ship channel, then cut back across the lake to Heberts. It did fine but I told them they were insane

O completely change the subject, has anyone here ever fished out of a solo skiff? If so, how did you like it?

We are about to start on a family camp on Cane River so I figured I will be splitting a lot of time between there and Big Lake. I am toying with the idea of looking to a Solo Skiff. My main concern is that I will need some added range to really fish Cane River (plus it will be a fun camp toy) but it also keeps the simplistic(ish) way of fishing that a kayak provides which I really enjoy. Only other issue I see is that I would need to add a trolling motor to a Solo Skiff.

Anyone have any thoughts?

No info on a solo skiff, but I fish a ton out of an Old Town Discovery Sport 15 - it is a flatback canoe. I run a 2.5hp outboard on the back (but it is rated to 5hp) and have a trolling motor on the front. I've also got a fishfinder mounted on it using gear tracs. It is a fishing machine, but still pretty simplistic. Might consider looking at something like that.

Here it is without the trolling motor mounted:

Stable enough for 2 guys to stand and fish. And with the 2.5hp I can run about 8mph. Supposedly with a 5hp, you can get to 15mph but I've never had a motor that size to try it out

He isn't interested in selling it is he? Lol.

I am still not sure I want to make the switch but the fact that he can put 40 miles on it at BL is encouraging.

He hadn't mentioned selling it, I think he was talking about taking it out just the other day. I know he had brought a pretty decent sized spare gas can, he said his arse and back was sore since he was sitting on the hard seat but that was about the only complaint.

I bought a weed guard for my slayer. I dont ever have that problem anymore. I do use my trolling motor some lately with the bracket in place of the pedal drive

Be honest I had to look that up, pretty cool solution but maybe you can explain it better
It doesn’t stop grass from wrapping around the prop
just keeps it from stopping the prop shaft from spinning?

You still need to clean the weeds off right?

Depends on the thickness of the weeds really. If I'm just skimming them then no they dont get caught. If more than half the prop is in the weeds it will still catch em. But then I just got backward and forward hard and they fall off. No need to pull the drive

Made a run to Joe’s Cove on Saturday trying to find a few reds for the LCKFC Tournament. Made about a 3 mile paddle and was fishing for 7:15. Caught three reds from 7:30-8:00 all on gold spoons. Hooked a fourth fish that was close to being over the slot that broke my line and took my only gold spoon. Lesson learned, packing light has its consequences.
