Where on Cane River are you? I'm about a mile downstream of the Marina Bar. If you're not far, I'll pass by occasionally to help manage the fish population.

South of Shell Beach but before the first curve.

Love that area. Just emailed you about Saturday.

Where do you New Orleans guys go out of for reds and specs? Reggio, shell beach? Thinking about joining the yak family

quote:Yes, and add Hopedale and Port Sulphur to that list. If a little extra drive doesn't bother you, then also PAC and along LA-1 down to Grand Isle.
Reggio, shell beach?
All paddle friendly places to fish.

Taking a cpl guys fishing Saturday in either ms or Hopedale. How grassed up is Lena or the marsh across from the launch. I need to put them in a poppin cork fishable area and preferably not grass mats.

Delacroix, Hopedale, PAC, Fourchon/Leeville/GI

Ah yeah
I’m debating if I want to get an entry level kayak or just go all out. I have about a 2 grand windfall of cash coming to me :shrugs:

I’d spend and get something decent. I’m not up to date on the latest and greatest, my hobie is 5 years old, but I would think $7-800 would get something you’ll be comfortable in. Pedals changed the game completely for me, but you might have to spend a grand for that unless you can find something used.

Haven’t been to Hopedale lately but went to Reggio a few weeks ago and the grass was really thick. Did pick up one red fishing gulp under a cork along the edge of the grass and another was on weedless spoon

Im definitely willing to spend a couple hundred extra for paddles. Looking at CL and LA sportsman and it seems like 1k is what I need to spend

I would look at Facebook Marketplace. Just at a quick glance I see a Native Titan 12 for $1,800 in Maurice, a 2014 Pro Angler for $2,000 in Lafayette, and a Hobie Passport for $1,400 in Livingston.
Just as a few pointers, a bunch of the larger kayak brands have changed their models depending on the year. I probably wouldn't buy anything older than a 2016 (except maybe a Pro Angler) to make sure that you have at least new-ish features. It would suck bigly if you get a boat with an old style seat.

I think Native's best boat is their oldest propel model. That's why I am hoping for something new this year.

I have a 2017 Camo Hobie Outback, 180 turbo Fins, square hatch, anchor trolley, h crate and boondocks cart for $1,850 if you’re interested.

I am still kind of wary on Native. When I was looking for a kayak I joined their Facebook owners group. I have seen owners with issues come across my feed probably every 3 days or so. On the Old Town group I rarely see anything. I am not sure if that's due to more people owning Natives or what but its a noticeable difference.
