They do that every year, since flounder are so hard to catch everyone is always hoping someone gives up a honey hole. I think last year only 2 slams were caught, something like 5 flounder all together.

Catching a slam on purpose can be pretty tough to do, In my ~10 attempts I think I've only done it 2 or 3 times during tournaments.

What's the story with all the Flounder trolling on the Bayou Coast Facebook page?

There's always some "fish tales" and subterfuge to mess with people the week or two leading up to the tournament.

Anyone here use the YakAttack Spectralite tracks? What do you think of them? Going on a tandem boat for me and the boy.

Looking for a rail with a single row of screws/rivets. Open to any and all suggestions that fit that requirement. These are the ones that I can source locally.

Thanks in advance.

Not a fan. The screws that they provide stick up too far once they are installed and don't allow for other "screw" type accessories other than YakAttack to be used. I replaced them with flathead screws, but I forgot to get stainless ones, so they are rusted as hell now. If you only use YakAttack products you can probably get by with them.

I don't like tracks in any form. I want as few things as possible sticking up from my boat.

I have those tracks installed on 2 boats and don't recommend them. They're flimsy and give and the screws as someone alluded to aren't great and sometimes get in the way.

I'd go with the low profile gear tracs like this Scotty Low Profile Track

Hey guys. Looking to get into the Kayaking hobby. Not in BR but San Diego.

I want to eventually get to the point where I can fish off my kayak. Not just in the bays around here but off the coast as well.

I am a complete novice though. Do I need to take lessons? How hard is it to pick up? How long will it take to reach my goal of being able to fish of the coast in a kayak?

I don't have a vehicle that can transport a kayak so I would have to keep it at a marina around here somewhere.

I have a good friend who kayak fishes out there a bunch. His advice was to try and join the San Diego Kayak Fishing Club Facebook page. That's going to be your best resource.

Also, are you an experienced fisherman looking to get into kayak fishing or are you knew to both kayaking and fishing?

Fished last Sunday and Monday here in Oklahoma. My padnuh was in town visiting from San Diego so we made a couple trips.

Sunday we hit up American Horse Lake. 100 acres full of flooded cedar and deep channels. Managed 15 bass mainly on plastics and 3 sac au lait trolling crankbaits behind the Rouganoe:

Monday, we kayak fished the Blue River. Gorgeous river. Love fishing it. Ended up catching 33 bass (mostly spots, a few largemouth and 2 smallies) on a mix of rage craws, shaky head and yellow magic; and 1 rainbow trout on a rage craw? Didn't expect that.

All told on the two trips we kept 10 keeper bass (must be 14" in OK) and the 3 slabs. My son provided the foot for the box shot:

I’m jealous AF. I really need a good yak trip in my life.

ETA: I’ve been googling Texas rivers this morning instead of working. Guadeloupe, Brazos, Devils River, etc... Been wanting to do some trips like that for a long time. Maybe when my kids graduate...

I live 10 minutes from the Guad and kayak it all the time. I've been getting the itch to try to devil's river. People are pretty secretive about it though, and access is pretty tough. And if you get in a bad situation, you're screwed out there. Think I'll try to find someone that's been before and go from there.

Never thought about kayaking the brazos because I'm in the hill country and the brazos is generally ugly/muddy as shite.

Where are you located? Plenty of options east of LA as well for a river trip.

ETA: as well as AR, MO, OK, etc...

St Landry Parish. Yeah, the only reason I’ve been looking at Tx rivers is because I know several people in Tx that have been trying to get me to go on trips over there with them. But scheduling is always a problem.

I’d love to take trips all over the country. But I’ll probably have to retire before I get a chance to do anything like that.

I was reading this one article that said the exact same thing, but apparently a certain section of the river is really pretty. I’ll see if I can find the link.

ETA: BRAZOS RIVER (BELOW POSSUM KINGDOM LAKE)

Can't say I've explored much of North Texas so I guess there might be some good water up there.

As far as the hill country rivers (colorado, llano, guad, frio) watch water levels if you make a trip. Last summer the upper guadalupe was barely a stream. Miserable kayaking where you just pulled your kayak the whole way with a few intermittent deeper pools.
