Nice Osceola Weagle.

You ride in Endymion? I think I know you.

It's a eastern. I think you've got me confused with a friend of mine.

Looks like it's got Osceola in it with the dark wing tips. I am not an expert on Osceola's though haven't killed one yet.

Must be, I din't think there were that many Auburn fans running around the area! J/K! You look a bunch like who I am thinking of.

Choirboy...

Nice! I take it you had a few birds gobbling!

We had a good opening weekend too, but not that good.

Yes, we had a great opening weekend. There were more killed that were not in the pic but its a big club and we had 10+ in the woods each morning.

How bad do strong winds effect the turkey hunting? I'd imagine it sucks and the place I'm hunting tomorrow has strong winds in the forecast.

Its not the ideal situation but it doesn't mean you can't hunt. Will you have the opportunity to roost a bird the evening before the day you plan to hunt? If so walk into his house the next morning and be ready when he pitches down from his tree. High winds might keep him from gobbling as much as normal. On the other hand he may be gobbling every breath due to the tree swaying in the wind. A turkey can seem foolish and crazy but one thing for sure is that it is hard to predict them.

Thanks. Yeah, we're leaving later this afternoon to go roost one.

Thursday:

Hunted property in Natchez and all the turkeys were gone. The river was in there all winter and they have not come back yet. I was banking on smoking them there so that was a huge letdown

Friday:

Went back to property in Woodville and hunted from 6:15-3:30. frick. Never heard one in the roost, took off to another spot. Saw one in full strut on a public road with 6 hens. Parked and hauled arse and talked to one hen and that was it. Nearly puked from dehydration that night. Back in Austin now and waiting to hunt Fort Hood with low expectations. frick school

Opening weekend of the Central Zone in FL was promising. I put a friend on a bird that I had been scouting Saturday night and he sealed the deal only minutes into the hunt. I hunted a WMA with a partner on Sunday and we tag teamed a bird there. I got to see 3 toms flop in just over 72 hours including one of my own. The gobbling is pretty slow and there are tons of jakes to deal with; otherwise, it was a pretty good weekend..

Whenever someone asks me why I go turkey hunting my usual response is..

"Because wild turkeys piss me off as they've been making me late to work now for years..."
