Squirrel Treefrog (I believe...lacked characteristics of leopard frog or cricket frog, but I'm likely wrong and it's a cricket frog...pretty confident it's a squirrel treefrog, though).
Green Anole getting its workout in and flaring his dewlap.
Painted devil crawfish (also known as coffin cutters) in shitty light, which is prey for...
Three-toed Amphiuma cruising around a little ditch after the rains Saturday, one of two ~2+ feet amphiumas spotted in the same tiny ditch. Sorry for the shitty pictures. I didn't want to disturb its hunt.

Just stick your finger in his mouth and lip him like a white perch. He doesn't bite.

Haha. Yep...and I'll get the one after you..
Occasionally, we'll get a mud snake in that same ditch/area. Have a nice food chain going then...crawfish -> amphiuma -> mud snake.

We found one of these in a ditch when I was growing up (Greenwell Springs). Talk about major freak out. I've never seen another one. Pretty gnarly looking animal.

Teague I am curious about where you got your Eastern Indigo? Been thinking about getting one for awhile but it seems like most of the breeders are pretty far from LA.

Mine came from a breeder in CA. There aren't a lot of them around. I don't know of any in Louisiana. Getting an eastern indigo usually involves shipping unless you just happen to live near one of the few breeders.

Was it black pearl or someone else?

No, it was Robert Bruce. If I ever get another, I'd probably go with Black Pearl or one of a few individuals that produce small numbers.

Do u think the EI was worth the money over say a black or yellow tail? I like the look of the EI the most but its almost triple the price. Not to mention the health issues.

That's a very good question. I think most of the Drymarchon genus are basically the same snake in different colors. I think the fact that I grew up lusting after an eastern made it worth it FOR ME. The nostalgia and the fact that it was the iconic holy grail snake of the past that made me want one for about 30 years. But, if you just like the snake for what it is, the other species in the genus are damn near identical. Most of them are also pretty pricey, but the black tails are a steal. That's what I'd recommend someone get if they wanted an "indigo" without spending ridiculous money. I'd definitely get captive bred though.

I do like the black tails but there is something about the red throats on the EI's that make me want one bad lol. Also those axanthic black tails are awesome but i cant see myself spending that much.

I'm glad you clarified in the title. Thought it was the study of herpes

Teague would you happen to know if EI's are protected in LA? Trying to find out if I can even legally get one. Looked at Lousiana Wildlife and Fisheries website and couldn't find the answer.

I don't know for sure, but they SHOULDN'T be because they aren't native to LA. If you can't find the answer, try contacting whoever is the head of your state nongame division. I think you'll just need the $100 interstate permit (assuming you buy it from another state). That usually takes about 3 months to get.
Also, there's a good chance the breeder will know the answer to that question.

I have been in contact with the guys at black pearl and they told me to find out. Guess I will need to make some calls.
