re: The golden years for ducks are gone....
No doubt about. Seen my fare share of days of ducks landing 80 yards away. But when you on it, all is good in the world!

I started duck hunting in the 90s at darbonne nwr. I’ve had some really great hunts in there. Getting your limit was not uncommon and it is a small refuge that was pretty heavily hunted.

The last 10 years have been pretty bad though. I only hunted a few times last year and sold my boat this year. There’s just not that many ducks in there anymore.

Soooo many whiners in this thread. LOL at the need to "limit" out every time you hunt.

Yall have no idea how many duck hunters across the country are lucky to limit out a handful of times a year. There's plenty of guys that hunt just to shoot their guns once or twice at some divers or shovelnose with the off chance something else will fly by occasionally.

Just because its not amazing like the folk lore of the past, doesn't mean you can't still enjoy yourself. Who honestly wants a freezer full of duck breasts anyway? If I wanted to fill my freezer I'd hunt or fish for something other then ducks. Just saying, you got it good even if its a bad year in Louisiana.

Maybe what the state needs is to go back to the really lean years of the 80's when we had a 3 or 4 duck limit and 30 days to hunt.

Choup,

I hunt in Pointe a la hache and it ain't nothing compared to the surrounding marshes like say delacroix, reggio, scarsdale etc. As far as mud motors go for pressure. I'd say our pressure is obviously less than those around us and our birds have flat out left too, and the greys never really showed. My bag is less than 15 percent greys, should be around 50 or more! Fortunately the poachers are getting slimmer like the birds...

Our marsh looks like crap right now, lilies flattend marsh, they choked out some areas, extended periods of low water and the feed has been wiped out. I think early my leases were producing because of the smart weed and water hemp. Thats gone and the milfoil and coontail is down so they're leaving or flat skipping over.

Maybe there aren't as many ducks compared to 20 years ago, but I'm still having fun with it. I know I appreciate them more now

Decreasing duck #'s aren't nearly as bad as the increasing # of jackass duck hunters who think they're the next Phil Robertson.

re: The golden years for ducks are gone....
People don't expect to limit out every time they hunt I wouldn't think. Yeah we used to kill a lot more birds back in the 90's and early 2000's where I hunt and that changes. What really makes me miss the old days is how the birds work. They are so pressured today by so many hunters throwing out mojo and shooting at 60 yard high birds that they don't work like they used to. There is nothing better than watching a group do it right and working down feet first. I watched several hundred birds last week flaring off live ducks on the water.

I for one am amazed how many people from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, etc. get in leases and drive to hunt and pressure ducks in Arkansas the last several years. A lot of these younger hunters seem to just want to kill a pile, put a pic on social media, and never even clean or eat the birds they kill. Curious if you personally don't like eating the ducks what you do with them?

I would consider this a good season. I can't remember the last time I've even killed a limit in Louisiana. It's been years ago.

Not anymore. You better delete that baw.

I all but stopped and started deer hunting 3 yrs ago. And I never thought that would happen, much less on my 20’s.

They should ban air cooled engines, mojos, blow up any and all levees, destroy salvania, institute shell limits and enforce encroachment of other hunters.

Limits? Damn son, all I want is a few willing greenheads to call at. To clarify, I just want to see them and get the chance.

I’m with you White Bear. Don’t know what my comment did to trigger the crybaby names though. Just stating what I’ve observed. I’m not expecting a limit every hunt. Just want to get a few flights in that I can work. That used to be common. Now it’s not.

The OB starts to look like the OT with some of the replies on here.

Why do yall care so much what someone does with the ducks they kill? As long as they are legal, I could care less if they eat them or just take a pic and dump them responsibly. A dead duck is a dead duck.

There are laws against "dumping them responsibly". Nice ethics by posting that though.
