Wow. If they had that Xi3 in a 10 I would buy it right now. Crazy prices.

This thread makes me want to get into fly fishing.

I haven't gone since I was a kid and have no knowledge on it. Lot of good places around to go tho.

We'll be on the White in less than two weeks, and I'm ready.

That was one of the options I had in minf. What line do you have on that BVK? wondering if it might do better with something a little heavier than the rio gold. Maybe the rio grand.

Not a great report from Delacroix. They missed the wind forecast and it started blowing pretty hard. Had trouble finding clean water, and when I did there weren't fish in it. In hindsight I should've done more searching and paddling. Did manage to get my first marsh bass on a fly though

I have some cortland line on mine that I got for free. I like it but really liked the rio gold i put on my 3 wt. I don't think you'd need a heavier line for that BVK rod though. Maybe it's all personal preference?

You shouldn't need to go heavier or up line the BVK. It's not a bomber by any means. I got Wulff Bermuda Triangle on mine and it suits it fine.

How hard is it to cast from a kayak?

It's really not that tough but line management can be an issue. After just a few trips I've gotten a lot better at keeping my free line from getting tangled.I got a Jackson Big Rig that has a really open floor that helps minimize tangles, and it's stable enough to do jumping jacks on.

While sitting down? It's not horribly hard, but I certainly can't cast as well as standing up. The major issue is being lower to the water, imo. Harder to load the road. It's also easier for your backcast to hit the water behind you, since you're lower.

I'm usually fishing for bass from a 'yak, so presentation doesn't really freaking matter. Fishing for reds or something spookier, I'd imagine it's a little more challenging.

Anyone know about some North Alabama trout fishing? I'm moving there in a month or so (North B'Ham area actually) and really interested to see if there are any decent spots within a half day's drive.

You saltwater guys seen the EVO East Cape is pushing?

LINK

I talked to them about it for about 30 minutes yesterday. We're in the market and I've been leaning towards a Fury, but this boat looks like a hell of a compromise between the Vantage and the Fury. High sides and knife cut spray rails. You could run to the islands in that boat. My search criteria just got wider for sure.

That Evo is fine. Fished out of my friends fury a good bit and it is a sweet rig. Definitely my dream skiff I hope to get in 10 years.

Have you looked at the BT3? Similar capabilities to the Evo. The Vantage is a big arse boat, the fury will be a little less flats boat and a little more skiff. I have fished out of a few Vantage boats, both VHP and regular vantage, as well a a BT3. They are all nice, and they all draw about the same amount of water. We had a fury out in some pretty nasty weather and it did fine. Took a few big waves over the bow and the boat never felt overwhelmed. I think the BT3 rode the best and driest out of the three. I haven't been in an Evo yet but I'm hoping to take one for a spin here pretty soon.

I like east cape, Kevin is a really nice guy and he will let you add or take away just about anything from whatever hull you chose. I came very very close to ordering a Glide last fall. My friend has a Caiman, and that thing surprises the shite out of me every time. If I ever get rid of my Whipray, I will be ordering a Caiman.

I've fished in all of the above except the Caimen and the Whipray. My reasons for East Cape are just what you said. Both the BT3 and the Strike are cool boats, but East Cape will basically let me design my own boat. I like the Vantage too but it doesn't pole as well of the others because of the size, and I really don't need a boat that big. I have a 22ft Skeeter for stuff I'd use the Vantage for.

I've been part-listing a Fury for about a month now, but the idea that I could have a higher sided boat that I could run to Cat Island on good days with, and triple tail fish with, and get to Breton/Chandy with is pretty cool. According to Kevin, EVO's realistic draft with a 90 is gonna be around 9", whereas the Fury would be around 7". That difference is negligible to me just because I don't really fish in water shallower than 7" that often.

I gotta say I like the lines of the Fury better than the EVO, but I'm just not used to the high sides yet because of how new it is.
