Which fly shop? I just left there Saturday. I got my introduction to fly fishing there and I'm now ruined.

Well, you've accepted your fate. Unfortunately you don't even know how deep this rabbit hole goes. Soon you'll be on here asking about fly tying materials - think of your experience fly fishing and then think of catching that beautiful trout on something you created from a bare hook, some thread, bits and pieces of feather, etc... I have considered giving up hunting all together b/c all I want to do is fly fish.

In other news, to add my personal addiction I landed my first redfish on the fly today! What a rush seeing that thing go on a tear after I set the hook. I knew he was close and I kept repeating in my mind "strip set, strip set, strip set." I'd never done one before but it worked out pretty well.

Right now I'm just trying to figure out what kind of beginners set up I want to start with. I was using a borrowed rod and don't quite know where to start. Hate to drop Sage money only to decide I don't like it as much as I thought.

Kind of looking at either a TFO base model or the Echo base kit. Probably go 6wt as a good middle range for trout on our rivers.

If I'm an idiot please point me in a new direction.

Smoked, assume you are in Arkansas. You need to visit this shop in Cotter.

You will be fine with a 5wt, but a 6 will work. What budget are you looking at?

Don't have an exact budget. I see the TFO NXT combo is dirt cheap but don't know much about it. Was looking at the fenwick aetos and it is getting great reviews. But then I get lost in the details of reel and line. Sometimes I just think say to hell with it and just order the orvis encounter start up and go from there.

The reel just holds the line until you need the drag. Even then, you can palm the reel and slow down a fish. Spend money on the rod.

This little guy came on a purple cone head wooly bugger using a TFO Lefty Kreh Finesse 5 wt. rod and a 1930's Pflueger Medalist 1494 reel.

I'm 90 percent sure I met him after coming into town. Seemed like a nice guy but had the kids and wife with me ready to go home. Something about cold and rainy doesn't make them want to hang out in fly shops.

Do yall have a preferred "multi-use" line for warmwater bream/bass and occasional cold water trout?

I dont "need" new line, as my setup is very new, just figured if there was a nice priced upgrade that might make even a slightly noticeable performance increase.

This is for a 5wt

I do not. I'm pretty simple when it comes to lines for the most part. I have several Scientific Anglers lines that have lasted me a very long time. I use them for most everything freshwater.
