Moons, Ill be tuning in. I know that this will mostly be your packing guide. However, I saw a reference to tides. I'm interested to hear how you prepare and fish the tides in DIY locations.

Sweet man. I'm gonna talk some about tides, photo gear, and and really just try to answer any questions people that have never done this before/felt like they couldn't may have about flats fishing in general. I'm not an expert but I've done it enough to screw up and learn from it, so feel free to come watch and ask whatever questions
.

It wasn't a bad time. Infinitely less awkward than I expected.

I thought it was well done Moons. My wifi was in and out (frick Cox) so I only caught bits and pieces

Ok so how has no one ever told me how much fun shellcrackers are to catch on those little foam spiders. Small Ozark creek that varies from 4 inches to a couple feet in the holes. Dodging honey locusts and cows the entire time. Can't wait to wake up and do it again in the morning.

Is it easy to attach your fly line to backing or should I just bring it to a fly shop and have them laugh at me?

Does the fly line come with the end looped?
If so, loop to loop connection. Tie a loop knot in the backing and and run the main line through so the loops connect.
You may ask yourself what loop knot for backing? There are a number that you can tie and most proposed on the internet are difficult for a first time tie. I just tie a "mirrolure" or "rapala" no slip loop knot. You can find instructions on their respective web sites.
If someone has a go to loop knot for backing please post!

Only took a couple pics, ended up leaving phone on the bank once I started wading. Turned out I never even got deep enough to get to my back pockets. Going to try some midges tonight to see if I can catch a minnow. This could get addictive quickly.

Beautiful fishing scenery!
Working poppers on some brim can get very addicting...especially if there’s a pond in close proximity.

Bimini Twist - Animated illustration from Orvis

depends on what size rod you're doing for me.
Freshwater I use an albright knot
Saltwater I use a bimini twist
If the fly line doesn't have a loop in the back end I will make one with Amnesia shooting line and a little super glue.
I also use Amnesia on the front of my line. A nail knot to the line then a perfection loop in the amnesia. The section is only about 6" long. Loop to loop from the amnesia to the leader.

I have the chance to be in Vail, Co in mid-August for a few days. Anyone have suggestions for a local fly guide out there, either 1/2 or full day wading?

A fly shop will do it, but there's really no need. Alberto knot or Albright knot will work fine if you don't have welded loops. Bimini twist is a little overkill IMO.
If you do have a welded loop, just use a perfection loop and do a loop to loop connection. I would tie the perfection loop big enough such that you can double the loop, which will keep the backing loop from folding over itself and just creating a knot that bites into your fly line, if that makes sense.
