Hummingbird 2017 Spring Migration Map
I put my feeders up last week in Shreveport in anticipation. Below is the map for 2017.
As you can see they are starting to arrive in Florida. God help them with all the shite that goes down there.
From the 2016 map, we should start seeing them in the next week or so in Louisiana.
This is your notice. Dust off the feeders and make some sugar water.

Put 2 feeders out last week just in case, planning to have all 8 up next Saturday

Thanks for the reminder. I picked up one of these at the Wild Bird Center in Shreveport. I've had good luck with it.

Had as many as 20-30, hard to count those dudes, buzzing around the bottle brush trees going into my pool area. Dive bombing each other fighting over the best flowers. Fewer males than females by far

Do y'all still mix in red food dye? I feel like it attracts more, but others say it's bad for em?

I've never seen conclusive evidence one way or the other about food coloring and hummingbirds. I leave it out because I haven't noticed a difference. I only buy feeders that are mostly red.

Looks good. All red.
Stay away from the ones with yellow blooms. I've read several times that yellow attracts wasps, yellow jackets, and other undesirables.
Never seen scientific evidence, but it's easy enough to get a red one and avoid the chance.

I left my feeders up into the fall this past year. Filled them up one last time and walked outside to find an entire colony of honey bees all over them. Last time I do that.

I bought my mom one with red glass. Why is that not standard on all feeders?

I'm sure our resident expert Biggerbear could touch on the subject with more info.
I would imagine it would help if you get some that find it in the spring, head North and remember to hit it on the way back South in the fall. As opposed to only having it out in the fall and just hoping some find it then or remember it from the fall the year before.

I want to say he or someone else posted that he keeps one out all winter for any stragglers or an odd species that may winter here after getting "lost".

2 years ago at my parents house. sorry its not in focus was crazy that it let me get my phone out in the first place. it kept flying in face near the feeder so I put my hand out

I think he meant that for people in S. La. I know I read somewhere that the southern part of the State has them in winter now that so many people feed.
