The law is purely an emotional response but I wear my lanyard anyway. There are times when I don't wear it but it's because I'm setting up a drift or coming into the marina.

here's the LA law.
its based on HP not boat length, and only for a tiller handle

quote:

No person shall operate a Class A or Class One motorboat with a hand tiller outboard motor in excess of ten horsepower designed to have or having an engine cut-off switch, while the engine is running and the motorboat is underway, unless:

a. The engine cut-off switch is fully functional and in operable condition; and

b. The engine cut-off switch link is attached to the operator, the operator's clothing, or if worn, the operator's personal flotation device.

and i believe you are taking what i said out of context. I
Given that you say things like this
quote:

why would i fly off my boat? I am a responsible driver. SO i guess hunters shouldnt shoot guns because they kill people.

I would think your best bet is someone taking your words out of context, because on their face they seem kinda crazy.

I just installed the Fell Marine xFob system on my boat. I don't think it would be in compliance with that law.

common sense law. If you motor is equipped with a kill switchi guess you are against personal liberties.

People upset over helmet laws, seatbelt laws, and kill switch laws are funny to me.

Seems like odd things to be upset over. Simple fact is, our law books are full of regulations that restrict personal liberties. Our society is full of people that refuse to accept, or acknowledge simple laws of physics. For those people, we have things like helmet, seatbelt, and kill switch laws.

In my opinion, it shouldn't have to be a law. It's common sense. It does not inconvenience you in any way to wear it, and wearing it could save your life, and someone else's life. It could save your life same as wearing a seat belt could. I would never argue against a law that would have absolutely zero negative impact.

When I was younger, I THOUGHT wearing a seat belt was stupid, and I only wore one so I wouldn't get a ticket. Maybe CarRamrod is just young and dumb like I was? Regardless, he is 100% wrong. It is not put in place to take your "liberties" away. It was put in place simply to protect you, and others in case something happens. Arguing that driving a boat safely should be enough, and you shouldn't be required to wear a kill switch is idiotic. Wearing a kill switch IS PART OF driving a boat safely. You can be the safest person to ever drive a boat, and an accident can still happen.

You cannot predict the unpredictable.

Apparently we need them to tell dumbasses, such as yourself, to wear it so that you don't hurt or kill others when an accident happens. Like I said, it shouldn't have to be a law, but because of idiots who refuse to wear it, they have to make it one. I, for one, would celebrate someone like yourself getting written up for not wearing one.

Its official I believe Carramrod has to as stupid or an alter of the famed Bossier, OBC, type guy. What an idiot trying to make a alternate point on such a commons sense topic.

Nah, I'm good.

Maybe you should wear a kill switch while driving a boat. You cannot possibly provide a good reason not to.
