Dad and I are thinking of taking the boat out to Big Lake this weekend and fishing with live shrimp. Can I get specifics on other tackle we need?
What type/size hooks?
What type/size weights?
What type/size corks?

3/0 or 4/0 kahle hooks
If Carolina rig, 1/4 oz weight
Any type of popping cork will do
Eta: grab some barrel swivels and some 30# leader line and you're good to go.

4/0 circle hooks on cajun thunder rattling corks. Get the red ones.

Also, people around LC, is it safe to take a little 16.5 Alumacraft boat on Big Lake?

Kahle hooks 2/0 if you are fishing live with a 1/2oz egg sinker and a 4in cork.
Carolina rig setup (sinker on the line, tied to swivel- then ~18in of 20lb test as my leader ending with the hook). Makes it easy to switch back and forth from cork and bottom fishing

4/0 Kahle hook.
1/4-1/2 oz weight.
Any popping cork, I use the cheapest I can find.

So many fishing with 4/0 size hooks. That seems huge

I saw a boat smaller than that hopping around the weirs yesterday, and it was sustained 22 mph winds. Having said that, I would stay in black lake this weekend, especially with the shoot out tomorrow

What is the purpose of the leader? I have 12# Berkeley Big Game on my reel right now. This won't work?

It's kinda big for the bait, but just right for the bulls.

You can go without a leader, but it will definately help with bigger fish breaking off.

You won't break off as many and it's more abrasion resistant against teeth, rocks, oysters, etc

forecast says 10-15kt winds. rough for a bateau. That said, i've taken my 15' with 25hp out there many a time. Launch in west cove and hug the south bank to the old settlement canal. Week of stout winds may have everyhing muddy though.

And a dumb question here, but if I'm using a popping cork and shrimp, I want to use a weight as well right?

We may end up waiting until next weekend.

No. Plenty of weight on the cork already. You can if you want to though.

I usually don't unless in throwing plastics.

And if you use a Carolina Rig like the pic Tots posted, you wouldn't use a popping cork?
