Is it worth me bringing my tackle? What’s the odds of fish(worth keeping) being caught in there?

tons of shite and sharks are always caught at the state pier, not sure how that relates to surf fishing though.

I bring mine for fun. Never know what you will catch. Have caught reds, whiting, pompano, shark, and a bunch of other random shite including an octopus. Hit it early before it gets crowded so you don’t snag a kid. Try different artificial and spoons...can also do shrimp on the bottom or cork if it’s calm.

We catch flounder, some white trout and occasional pompano. Oh and plenty of catfish. Seems the best time is an hour before daylight to 2 hours after daylight

Go to Little Lagoon and park at the dead of the road by Compass Point condo. In the Lagoon north of the swimming pool is a drop off that is good for catching flounder and trout. For flounder use Gulp swimming mullet in white and Matrix shad in green hornet color for trout.

Also wade west from there to where the gulf comes into the Lagoon and then head north on that point until it drops off.

You wade out until drop off? How deep is it?

been fishing in the Gulf Shores surf for over 20 years-
just use a small Carolina rig with a small hook with little pieces of shrimp, have caught many nice whitings (channel mullets) over the years, very good to eat
good luck

Yes.

I've had the best luck on the dropoff just north of the Compass Point "map point."

I generally start there and follow the "u" west. The part of the circle drawn on the west is the pass and it gets pretty deep.

There is a small public beech with parking at the pass if you don't want to park on the dead end road.
Depth depends on the tide, but most of the time it's thigh to waist deep.

It's no secret. Google "Little Lagoon" fishing and you will find info on other message boards.

Yes. Get you some 5'3" pvc poles to put in ground. Rig up with pompano rigs and 3 oz pyramid sinkers and put peeled fresh shrimp on the hooks. Should get a limit of pomps unless they moved out. I limited every day 2 weeks ago.

A lot of trout holding up on the gas rigs right around the mouth of Mobile Bay. Also, triple tail are being caught in droves underneath the crab buoys. I know you said surf fishing but just a report for those that have access to a boat in the area

Used to fish the little lagoon pass on the beach side. The orange area is the sweet spot. Caught whiting, flounder, reds, specks, shark, even once caught a snapper (wasn't sure if it was a mangrove or vermillion). Saw guys catching mackerel. At dusk, sharks, ladyfish are common as well. This time of year should produce some pompano.

Jellyfish can be an issue at times, a moving tide is what you generally want to avoid the catfish. Most recently, I generally tried not to wade out but I have some pretty significant surf fishing setups. Saw a bunch of guys out on the sandbar fishing when about a 5-8 foot shark went through to grab a red someone had on. Put me a little of wading out to the sandbar after that. A couple of those guys looked like they were walking on water after that.

ETA: Not sure how I got that second blue arrow on there

ETA again: the place we rented was called Mullet Over.

I used either shrimp (Live, fresh dead, or salted/brined), Live Minnows, or sand fleas (personal favorite). Fish Bites would be a good choice if you don't want to find bait. The guys I saw catching Mackerel when the were running were using artificials. The biggest specks I caught in the are were either on minnows or sand fleas. I generally used pompano rigs or this type of rig

Pompano rigs are similar but have a small float near the hook and usually a bead or beads as well

>

If the rig does not have circle hooks, i generallybuy some and replace what is on the rig.

I use a sputnik type weight but pyramid weights are easier to find

There is a super walmart in gulf shores that has a really good tackle selection including rig, weights, and even frozen baits and brined shrimp. If you use shrimp other than live, use just a small piece, like thumbnail size or smaller, particularly if you want to catch whiting.

Good Luck , wish I was going woth you to help you out

We fish some docks on the lagoon side. We caught a lot of lady fish. The kids used light tackle and crappie jigs topped with a peice of shrimp to catch these bream sized shad looking fish. Couldn’t do anything with them but it kept them occupied for hours and they couldn’t wait to go back the next day. That was good enough for me.
