Sunk my rancher yesterday. In the process now of draining and refilling oil. I'm guessing i'm going to have to do this about 7 times until its fully clean. Yall think down the road it will start to smoke and or need top end rebuilt?

The right way to go about getting it back up and running is to split the case and clean it out.

The half arse way is to do what you are doing now. You can also flush it out with diesel or transmission fluid but make sure to pull the plug and spin the motor over a few times.

If you do it this way I suggest using Marvels Mystery Oil

Just curious. What happened? How did you sink it?

Don't feel bad, I sunk mine twice in one year. My insurance company thinks I am an idiot. My fault the first time, wife's fault the next.

Drain everything out. Fill crankcase with diesel fuel. Disconnect spark plug and turn the motor over a few times. Put the Rancher on a trailer and go drive down some bumpy roads for a while (shakes the diesel up in the engine). Fill with new oil and run for a few hours. Drain that oil out and change again... should be good to go after that.

Don't forget the front and rear diffs...

Honda's don't respond well to top end rebuild for some reason. Most shops have gotten to where they will only rebuild the top and bottom, because top end rebuild will only last so long.

I can't believe how much I read about this on this board.
You can't find a way around that deep water and mud? Why put your machine in there on purpose? It's pretty predictable what is going to happen.

My grandpa was riding a 1987 Honda fourtrax down a levee on his property years ago and his dog ran in front of him , he ended up in the pond. Pulled it out and drained it and has run like a top ever since. He gave it to me 4-5 years agos it still runs great.

Those older machines were so good, really, any of the big four brands. Hard to tear them up.
I had 1 of those 250 fourtrax for a long time,it was great, just a little bit to be desired on the suspension.
I got an Arctic Cat after that 1 and it was like suddenly having a damn Cadillac
