Did mine at St. Bernard Indoor Shooting Center. I did like how they spent more time going over legal angles and senarios. It was 2015 when I went and just liked that part of it compared to what others told me they taught in other CCW classes they went to.

If Slidell is an option F.I.T.S. puts on a great class. Very in-depth legal curriculum included that is so important IMO. And friendly folks to boot.

During breaks you can check out holsters, guns, etc. from their shop. Plus they provide breakfast, lunch, and all the coffee you can drink. At the end of training they also give a coupon for a free range visit.

Highly recommend.

LA concealed carry

I was looking at this place in town since you can do all your paperwork and everything at one place at one time but I don’t know anyone that has done theirs here or heard any pros/cons about taking classes here.

I also went to St. Bernard Indoor. No qualms at all with their class.

This is the "anti 2-A" dude that was mentioned. (I may have to use that as my sig line).

You don't want a class where they are doing "the paperwork." That was the old days when you had to get forms notarized and photo taken.

Spend your time making sure the instructor knows exactly what he's taking about on the legal part. Not just the written law, but case law (which changes relatively rapidly).

Do your application online and get printed at State Police HQ. No notarization unless you've got old messy divorce issues, or old arrest issues.

I've suspended classes during this pandemic. (So even though Pepper boy gets some satisfaction from his sophomoric post, he's not costing me any students - not that I do this for the money anyway.) When I resume, I'll have my usual policies - teachers and military dependents take the class at no cost. (And depending on which kind of Bulldog you are you might get special consideration ) But right now I have no idea when that will be.

I will suggest that you call Alan Esterly. He's in the Dutchtown/Gonzales area. His email is on the State Police website, so I don't think he'll mind if I post it (alan@geauxshootin.com). His phone is (225) 717-0805

Alan knows his stuff -- which is not something you can count on with very many instructors. LSP doesn't have the staff or funds to audit instructors and determine if they have a clue about CCW legal issues or anything else. So you have to do your own research.

Feel free to call if you have any questions. 225-278-3636

Second this. Professional staff, great facilities, offers other training if that's your thing. Offers weeknight CHP courses after work (two nights) if a full Saturday is difficult for your situation.

If you're more on the south side of BR or more toward Nola, it is on the North side of BR, so there is that.

Vincent Buckles at Mesa Kinetic Research in Gonzales. His true life "shot an intruder" story is worth the trip.

Wasn't Alan the guy that was supposed to be building a range in the Praireville area, some 8-10yrs ago? I used to see his truck with a vinyl wrap when lived in a close neighborhood.

I think so. I know the proposed project didn't get too far.

I went with LA Concealed Carry last year. Two instructors, one was civilian who has been teaching courses for decades, the other was JPSO deputy.

Have no complaints. They are a one stop shop, just show up and they handle everything. I would recommend.
