Stihl Kombi System

I have a KM90 with weedeater, blower, pole saw, and weed blade. Super badass machine. No complaints. You really dont save much money because the attachments are expensive but its convenient.

I guess they don't have to, but its kinda ridiculous to me they don't sell it with any deals or include anything with the power head. Like buy the power head and 2 attachments and get 1 free. I'm looking to buy one this fall/ off season. I'm going to get the edger, trimmer, blower, pole saw, and maybe one or two others. Looking at $1000 for all that if not more. Also think I'm going to get the 130/131r. Weight is basically the same, and for $30 or so more you get the 5-10 extra cc's.

Its still cheaper by far than everything else combined, but its like they know they got you so they intentionally charge more.

I'm using it mostly just for residential use. But I've got some rental properties I'll probably use it at also occasionally, things like the pole saw. So I just don't want to have a bunch of machines that get 30 minutes of use a month. Makes more sense to me to save a little (key world little) and only have one power head that I use 5 hours a month.

I've been running it for almost five years now.

Trimmer, edger, and cultivator attachments. Rock solid on all fronts and plenty of power.

I see two different models...a residential version and a commercial version. Typically the commercial might be a little more heavy duty..but what is not clear from the Stihl site is if the commercial attachments are compatible with the residential motor head.

Also...do you use TruFuel or do you prefer the Stihl premix or what's your choice in that?

I have a KM55R and KM56RC with the straight-shaft trimmer and edger attachments. The 55R I've had since 2010 and has been flawless, the 56RC was a gift and definitely has more power but is being saved as a back-up power head. Good routine maintenance and it will probably be quite a few years before I'll have to buy anything else.

All the attachments work with both the residential and commercial motors. I am a Stihl dealer. I would recommend going no lower than the KM91,The difference between it and the Km56 is night and day.

I like their system a lot, most say their pole saws are the best. But the problem to me with Echo is they only make a 21 cc and 25 cc power head, they used to have a 28cc and don’t make it anymore. Stihl has a 28, 31, and 36 cc.

I’m going to get the cultivator and pole saw, so I’d rather pay $75 more and not worry about a lack of power.

Eta: As far as price though, yeah Echo offers the 21cc with 2 attachments for $299. Which is $200 cheaper than you can get into the similar Stihl for and you can get the blower, edger, and trimmer for $399 total which would be almost half price as Stihl. Stihl is great but not twice the price nice. The other nice thing about Echo is Home Depot sells their stuff so when Joe’s lawn service isn’t open I can get some parts on Saturday or Sunday. I understand they are more geared to commercial guys but I’m not commercial.

The Stihl dealer and I talked long and hard about cost vs total use and reliability vs overuse. Because I don't spend that much time in total time cutting he couldn't honestly recommend a higher commercial grade. After using it yesterday, at this point, I have nothing but good things to say...but bear in mind I was coming off of a TroyBilt that leaked fuel down my shoulder, had issues with the trimmer head that required TLC, had a kill switch that was no longer functioning....so anything was better than I had...I just feel the Stihl line was something worth investigating. I knew of Echo and other lines, but never really considered them for personal reasons.
