I've been saying this all fall/winter. Get the occasional big boar... but not the big groups of sows and babies. Very strange.

Chipola LA

We had about the normal amount.

What we actually had more of this year were coyotes. Those sons of bitches are everywhere right now

I will take the opposition side on this one for a sec...

Tons of people loathe hogs because they are told they loathe hogs. They talk of them as if they are miniature nuclear bombs destroying everything in their path.

From an agricultural stand point, they are horrendous menaces, no doubt, but so are deer on certain crops.

From the guy who leases timber land from the paper company to hunt deer, they knock down feeders and root up some food plots.

Then there is the table fare lore. "you can't eat a boar." "any pig over 67 lbs is like eating a burnt tire." I could go on and on with these absolutely wrong fables.

Deer hunters looking to put food on the table should welcome the opportunity to kill a few pigs now and then. Shoot every one you see! They are delicious. Additionally, the more pressure you put on them, the more they move on.

No one should be trapping, transporting, and re-releasing pigs anywhere but don't fall into the blanket statement mindset of "omg pigs are here that's why I didn't kill an OB 160" buck this season."

Hunt deer. Kill pigs. Kill deer. Eat 'em all. Have fun .

Just the opposite I am slap full this year. Had two sows in camera yesterday with close to 20 piglets between them.

I don't have that many hogs at all right now here in Oklahoma. I always feed a couple of domestic hogs a year for slaughter, so I don't eat the big feral hogs.

But there's not a protein that my bulldog and cats like more than wild hog. I define it and separate into muscle groups and freeze it. Throw it in a crockpot and those animals go wild.

Hogs are a huge competitor for deer for food and are predators for young fawns. In addition, their mere presence will push deer out of the area.

Took a wildlife class at LSU when I needed an elective right before graduation. The main thing I remember from the class was that for every pound of hogs you have on your property that's two less pounds of deer.

I've marked more hogs than I want to think about in my younger years. Probably have full immunity at this point. Now I don't touch them without gloves on.

correct. I do crop protection in SW Mississippi (not far from where you deer hunt) and our main focus is pigs but deer are in there with greater numbers eating the crops. We have been given the depredation tags for a few properties. the farmers spray haloucigenic chemicals strictly for the deer.

i have a line of people asking for pigs of any size. The real prize is a sow that smells like brown sugar.

True, we watch pigs and deer work a corn field in unison. Although deer keep distance from the large sounders. They both will be where the food is.

We had some briefly this summer, they went away after a month or two and haven't been back.

My family has been hunting the same land in Lincoln Parish since the 50's. We have seen exactly 1 hog which I got on camera 2 years ago in the summer and it has never been back.

At our lease in Caddo, 2 or 3 years ago we couldn't hardly make a drive without running a group of hogs out. This year we saw a few tracks but never jumped any. Although I did get pictures 3 nights last week of a group in my food plot. But they're since gone.

Shongaloo here. Zero hogs. When I was hunting closer to Sarepta on Dorcheat Bayou there were tons of them. Just a few miles away in the hills and there's none. There are bears though.
