I am just concerned with longer range accuracy, 100-150yrds, with the shorter barrels.

I have that same PSA .300 B.O. upper on a Springfield Saint lower. No complaints, my 9 y.o. son used it to take his first deer with it in January. 125 yards, 120# doe, DRT. 150 grn Winchester deer season XP. I have a VX5 2-10x42 scope on it. It is a very light and handy setup that I hunt with in shorter range situations.

I went a different route and got a bolt-action Ruger Ranch in 300 Blackout. It's a great little gun light accurate and very short so it can he shot by kids.

Was just coming here to post this

+ 1 on the Ruger Ranch in 300 BLKT. Have an Omega suppressor on mine and is a wonder to shoot inside of 150 yds, especially @ 100 (with subsonic rounds, supersonic probably good to 200/250). I think one of these, along with maybe a 6.5 AR/Bolt gun would take care of 100 % of most real-world hunting situations.

As long as you're not using a "snub nose barrel", when shooting at ranges of 100-150 yds, the main limiting factor will not be the accuracy of the 300 Blackout round, but the red dot optics. I have a 12" T/C Contender barrel in 300/221 (AKA 300 BO/300 Whisper). I killed 3 deer w/ it 2001 when I first bought it. Unfortunately, I've not hunted w/ it much since. The 3 deer were all killed w/ a single shot at distances from 100-195 yards, but I was using a 2-7X scope. I think you'll have difficulties confidently making shots like that using a red dot. I really like the 300 BO/300 Whisper/300/221, but it has attained near mythical status here. I like it so much I had a 300/221 Contender carbine barrel made up to be my son's first deer rifle when he was 9 y/o, but that's another story. For the person who's committed to the AR 15 platform, doesn't plan on shooting suppressed and may go deer/hog hunting, I think the 6.5 Grendel is a better choice. Although I don't have a 6.5 Grendel, I've killed a lot of big game w/ a 6.5 Contender barrel who's velocity runs a little less than the Grendel.

How do you like the pts233? I’ve been thinking about getting one.

Only had it a week. I haven’t field tested yet but shouldn’t have any issues identifying hog or a deer out to 150 yds. Depending how it goes I might sell my PVS 14.

Sounds good. Feel like I might still need a pvs14 or similar to go with a thermal so that I can still navigate when trying to move in on hogs though.

I'm sure the down votes will fall like rain, but I'm not a fan of the 300blk. The only reason I can see owning one is for shooting suppressed or for self defense (which is what you said you wanted). I've seen several deer shot with one. No pass thru and no blood. Thankfully, we were able to find them. That's the main reason I went with the 6.5 Grendel instead.

Just curious what ranges and what round they were using on the deer. The Barnes 110gr tac-tx black tips seem to penetrate very well insinde 100yds

Every shot w/ a Barnes 110 black tip on a pig has been devastating. Shot one in the hip at over 200 put a big hole it her. I would think within 120 yards would be more than enough. I honestly haven't tried any other bullets than the blacktips w/ the BO. I have shot pigs w/ both the 300bo & 6.8 spc (115 fusions) and can't tell the difference within 150 yards. Just my personal experience.

300 Blk SBR suppressed with a thermal is a deadly lightweight combination. Highly recommend.

Here is my 300blk build I did last year. Remember there is a fool here that says if your stripped lower is less than 250 bucks, it is a budget build.

That's not really that much unless you're doing a budget build. At that point, I'll still pay a little extra for a quality receiver. Aero Precision is my favorite for a cheaper build.

man how many alters do you have? to come in a downvote. you are one sad little person.
