a tree that has been struck by lighting won't burn worth a shite
It's true. The molecular structure of the tree changes after being struck by lightning. A tree is made mainly of cellulose which is made of glucose molecules and lignin, which is made of linked aromatic molecules, and is actually where coal comes from.
So when a tree is heated up, the cellulose and lingin are fused together which hardens the wood. The oxygen and nitrogen then forms a fusion that makes the wood anaerobic. It's a chemical reaction that makes the wood not worth burning since there is no oxygen left in the wood.
I just made all of that up. I have no idea. I did look up what trees are made of, that's about it.

the lightning strike burns off all the residual heat from the wood, therefore it will not burn

What kind of tree is it? If it is oak, I'd probably be trying to find someone nearby with an old mill. I bet there are some cool patterns in that grain now.

It's Oak. Not sure how good the graining will be though since there's a split in the entire trunk about 10ft tall. You can damn near stick your finger in the split.

You could probably get some good planks out of it. The size may be limited by the crack, though. I wouldn't expect a new mantle.

Odds are it'll just be reduced to firewood. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)
