I have never, not one single time seen a silver lab at a field trial...I have been going to them for 40 years.....

I did the hunt test game occasionally from 1987 through 2000 and now again since last spring both AKC and UKC and some letters some of ya'll might not recognize... I can count on ONE hand the number of silvers I have seen at hunt tests.

a lot of lab people are duck hunters. duck hunters seem to have a higher than normal concentration of douche bags so it would make sense.

nobidy expects you to understand why breeding against the standard affects the breed. Breeding to the standard is playing by the rules most owners adhere to except those looking for a fast buck. Unicorn breeders could care less about the dogs they produce. Being uninformed about these dogs is just dumb.

Nevermind the consequences of what breeding for cosmetic appearance does to the breed itself...

Yellows and Chocs have no more hip and elbow issues than blacks.... at least not when the recessive chocolate gene is over bred

10-4, all im saying is i prefer black dogs and would suggest a black to anyone, and no matter what he gets id get hip and eye certs based on my experience of my dog beginning to have hip and elbow issues at 10 yrs. I didnt get much past 10 because he got hit on the highway.

Showing interest in a silver makes me “feeble minded”

I think I’ll get one just out of spite now, keep muddying up your precious lab genetic pool that you care way too much about.

Congrats on being a pretentious douche though

No silver labs have ever won a field trial. I have been messing with labs for over 25 years. I’m a AKC Field Trial judge. NO To Silver MUTTS!

LINK

Genuine Silva labs with Continental Kennel Club registration papers. Nothing says puppy mill like; sire and dam on premise or zero health certs listed. Google CKC, they’re pretty much an online dog registry where you can register any breeding without pedigree or make it up.
Want something different? Plenty rescue clubs out there with out of the ordinary dogs looking for homes; greyhounds would be my go to different dog.

Do your research on silver labs. They all trace back to Kellogg’s kennels.

As others have said on this board, they are more prone to health issue, particularly skin allergies. A friend of mine has two, and one of them has some pretty serious skin allergies. He spends about 100 bucks a month on medicine for it. If you are set on getting one, I would suggest you take your time to find a very reputable breeder.

This is akin to finding a doctor that will help you have dwarf kids, because you want something out of the ordinary. There aren’t any reputable Silva lab breeders, the whole premise is a lie.

I know you’ve been getting some heat on here. Seriously, consider the weim. I had one that we just put down unfortunately. Me and the wife took it pretty hard bc she was just about a perfect dog. Absolutely phenomenal with the kids as far as patient and protective. Never ran away, always shadowing me outside. Also, probably the smartest dog I’ve ever seen. Within weeks I wouldn’t walk her with a leash and had her trained to sit at the curbs until I have her a command to cross the street. Just some thing to consider.

I am not used to seeing such vigor on the outdoor board! (Except for collared dogs)

I have really enjoyed comments on both sides of this. I have been laughing out loud at some comments.

I, admittedly, am a lab purist. I even have had heated arguments with great friends whether American vs British makes the better lab. Best I ever owned was 3/4 american and 1/4 british.

Anyway, I have to agree with some posters that the silver trait is largely inbred...to the point that there are significant concerns of health.

A kinder way to respond to you might have been along the lines of look closely and check the differing bloodlines, or you might be buying a dog with many future problems.

I have seen three out here in the West. One was a beautiful and fine 2 year old. One was a puppy that was just off (not normal looking or acting). The third was at a dog park and he wanted to run and play, but stopped every minute to stop and scratch and sneeze. That dog seemed miserable.

They are a good looking dog if health is guaranteed. I do not blame you and wife for looking into them.

For unique looks, google blue lacy's and viszla's.

Good luck in your search.
