I was aiming at the body I think I overestimated his speed with my swing.

And off topic, but since you're in Meridianville, do you know of any little patches of woods or briars out there where I could get permission to chase rabbits and squirrels with my hawk? Your uncle's grown up pasture, for example? Or maybe behind your pow pow's barn?

The hawks around here have learned to come to a combine in a soybean field. I had three red tailed hawks the other day in a field I was cutting just stand around on the ground where I had already cut waiting for a rabbit to run out. The buzzards would wait for the hawk to kill a rabbit then they would come in and try to steal it.

I've heard other people say that. They catch on pretty quick. Basically I do the same thing in my sport except I'm the combine.

Did that to an elk one time out of season because of "self defense."

I know how you feel. I killed one at night a few years ago running through our cane field. My dad held a Qbeam on him while I tracked him through the scope. Shot him through the spine with a .270 at a similar distance. I grabbed the .22 to finish him off without waking the neighbors further with the .270 and the .22 jammed. Poor thing was dragging him self towards the woods while I fixed the jam with my pocket knife. I hate coyotes, but felt bad for him at that point.

I think your next cat should be an "inside only" cat. Nice shooting, though, from the sounds of it.
