I will, but it depends. If one or two lite in the dekes I'll usually yell to get them up and then blast em to smithereens. But if you have a big group working and they are in various stages of sitting on the water, almost sitting, and still circling, I'll opening the volley by smoking one on the water then commence to unleashing hell on the others.

If the duck is close enough to me, that if when I yell it won't fly out of range, i'll yell.

But, when there are ducks on the water right out of range, whoever I'm hunting with and my self synchronize and shoot at the same time, crossing streams ala ghost busters, to improve the likelihood of putting steel on the bird. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I love how hunters say you shouldn't shoot them when they're sitting in the water. What's the difference? Either way you are going to blast them.

My grandfather told me to never shoot a duck swimming on the water . . .

. . . he said to wait until they quit moving first.

(old joke, but still a good one)

the best are the hunters that say not to shoot ducks on the water then turn around and shoot deer eating in a pile of feed

My buddy swore up and down it was illegal to do this. I took hunters safety and it's not illegal, just frowned upon a little. He's the only one I know who doesn't do it.

If you want to kill your limit you do it any way you can.

There is nothing wrong with shooting a duck on the water.

called an Arkansas wing shot ;)
Hard to kill a duck on the water vs one in the air - vitals more protected by wings/water when swimming

POI: If a duck(cripple or alive) is on the water but out of range, aim about 6 feet BELOW the duck at the water. The pellets will ricochet into the bird. Works out to about 80 yards.

Oh, and if times are tough i'll no doubt blast a duck on the pond.

Just a guestimate. Try and pick a spot on the water a little below the bird and let loose. Obviously this doesn't work if the bird is close to the blind.
