They shoot them all the time swimming the bayous in basin when they run them with dogs. Not sure if illegal, but should be if it isn't.

Just pull up next to them, grab the tail and lift. Head will go right under.

That hasn't been my experience

I killed my first deer when I jumped it up on the levee and it swam the canal to get away. I busted his arse as it came out on the other side. He was bogged down pretty good.

when deer is swimming and member of OB is in boat, MUCH safer to harvest by grabbing tail and lifting. Only during times of emergency when game laws have been suspended.
The esteemed poster Bonescanner beat me to it.

Why in the world would it be illegal to shoot a swimming deer?

My uncle lassoed one in water.
Did the same thing with an Uncle in his swamp buggy along Lake Okeechobee many years ago.

Brought it back to the house alive. Ended up letting it go because my Aunt and the kids thought it was too cute to kill.

No, and it's a really, really shitty thing to do. One of our posters was on here a while back bragging about pulling along side a swimming deer and killing it. What a pathetic loser.

Well, it depends. Have you lost one or more limbs?

That's what I was looking for. Thanks. It's just a discussion. Personally I've seen them swimming and would not shoot. However I have shot several while they were WALKING in the swamp. An agent told me today that is legal. I don't shoot out of a boat unless its my pirogue backed up into the Rosso canes.
