Is it legal to shoot a swimming deer in Louisiana? I know it's a state by state law and can't find a Louisiana clarification. And if so how do you determine since it could be walking in the swamp?

It is illegal to shoot a swimming deer. Standing in water is fine.

So a deer walking through the swamp is legal? As long as its not swimming but walking?

I've killed a handful of dry deer. They were all in Clinton or Mississippi though.

If that bitch is swimming and you shoot it, before getting to it, it will sink.

But I never shot one swimming.

Stopped off at a wildlife and fisheries office on the way to hunt in north louisiana. They had a monster that was taken by GJ for being shot while swimming.

If a deer is shot swimming and no one is around to see it, does it get reported to LDWF?

Oh I get it. Like if a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it....

Either throw rope around neck till it gets to bank, save the now unavailable ammo, use knife on throat. Unless it has big horns, then drive up next to him, wait until he's standing on bottom 2-3 well placed rounds he falls on bank, or so I've been told.

I thought swimming was illegal but walking through the swamp was not. I have never shot one swimming but have shot one while walking in the swamp.

And I can find online, Arkansas swimming is illegal but Tennessee it is legal.

If you wait until he/she reaches the bank they usually slow down when they get stuck in the mud. I don't think they can be stuck AND swimming, so I reckon that's the best time to shoot.
