Blue and green lenses would definitely flair birds. You can see them from a mile a way.

I dont hunt out in the open, much. I usually shoot green timber. I just keep the sun to my back and have never had a problem. By the time they see me, its too late.

Anyone have a hat like this for duck hunting?

My dad bought one on his Canada trip and swears by it. I need to get me one or for him to get me one when he goes back this year

We hunt open water a good bit and with a good NW wind blowing, your gonna be set up facing the sun, if you want to work the ducks in that way.

I have the green mirrored costas, used them all season long when it wasnt cloudy. Basically a guide since the majority of the people I take with me had never hunted before, so I'm watching the birds when they work.

I paint up (gonna try the cork, now), wear a hat down low, and stay low in the blind. I havent noticed birds react to the glare, most of the time they flair from someone too proud to wear paint or a mask in the blind....now that gives me the red arse

We have a flap on our floating blind that comes in handy while training folks not to moon pie the birds. Let the pie face stick his face up to the crack between the blind and the flap then slowly open the flap just a bit. When pie face has edged his way up to the point of flaring then pull the flap swiftly back to the closed position. The flap usually hits the person in the chin and they swiftly sit down. 2 or 3 training sessions and a cut/bruised chin all parties will be sitting and waiting on you to call the shot.

I have heard some people also use a little petro jelly mixed with the burnt cork. If I am not mistaken that is what athletes used to use for eye black back in the day.

Too much effort.. eye black doesn't even work!

Most important thing to do is to NOT move around. Keep your head down and look out the corner of your eyes. If the birds are low, you should be able to watch them from behind some brush. I can guarantee, there is probably something else in your setup that looks more unnatural than your mirrored sunglasses.

Now, it can't hurt to wear something that's not as reflective, but I don't think it really matters that much, especially early in the season.

I wouldn't think it would help. Reflections off those mirrored glasses could spook ducks. I can't wear sunglasses while hunting anyway, the frames block my view of my sights.
