not only do you pay state tax but parish taxes too.

it was previously only taxable if you bought from a dealer. not its private sales too. I ended up paying 1800 dollars in taxes for the boat i bought.

I also just sold a boat a few weeks ago and he had a pocket notary. He put a pretty small amount on it..

It was never the same. Before, only the trailer was registered, so you only were taxed on its value.

I might've been wrong on what the lady asked about my truck, probably was on my boat trailer. But definitely could've adjusted the sale price on my truck bill of sale.

It's only a matter of time before you have to register a kayak or canoe.

I bought a sail boat. No trailer. No state tax.

4.5% would have been a chunk of money.

Register the boat in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, or Texas and get a P.O. Box in that state that's what everyone is now doing. Louisiana is going to lose more revenue to other states for this money grab and it will seriously dampen the number of the revenue.

I just bought my boat and it has Miss registration but I keep it in Louisiana.

I once paid a guy so much for his cajun anchor that he threw in his bay boat for $50.

I'd pay twice as much rather than have someone think I'm from one of those states.

It is called personal property tax. We have it here in Virginia and anything registered through the state or county you have to pay taxes on yearly and that includes your vehicle! Boats, jetskis, motorcycles etc! Get ready because it is coming.

No, it's a sales tax. Only at the purchase. There's a separate use tax for bringing the property into the state and using it, which is very similar to the sales tax. Either way, it's a one time thing, not an annual personal property tax that many other states have.

You should keep your boat in VA beach

Maybe you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Take a look at how much Louisiana spends compared to similar states.

The problem is spending. Period.

I thought this was always the case? It's why I only buy and sell the trailer.

Ok. Enlighten me. Educate us on how JBE is responsible for sales tax on private boat transfers.

I wonder about that. Are you going to be able to get by with DWLF without going through revenue?
