Being as smart as I am I tried to remove a tree stump out garden on my own. Well I had a sago palm that I had trimmed off all the leaves a few weeks ago. Well there were some new growth sticking out sago I backed my truck into it and knocked off new growth. Is plant ok or did I freak up?

Should be fine if the root system is still intact, tell her I guarantee it will be fine, you get to watch ball game in peace and if I am right I am a hero, if I am wrong you are off the hook, still get to watch ballgame and she will be forever mad at tigerpaw123

You are correct , deadly to dogs if eaten. Plant is in from garden . Dogs can't get to it. We used to have sages in yard until we also heard that. Thanks!

only the fruiting mass is poisonous or likely to be eaten by a dog.
the fronds may also be but that would have to be a very determined canine to eat one of those

you cant kill a sago. Guy that cuts my yard ran over one of mine that was about 8" out of the ground and cut it level with the dirt. So i dug it up and tossed into the woods and planted another. The following spring walked into woods and frickn thing had all kinds of new growth and taking root on its on. I picked it up, took to parents and planted and its growing like crazy.

Sprayed a young sago with roundup....... died back, came back next spring. You cannot kill them.

If the roots are good you are fine. Not sure what it's called but they spread/ reproduce by spreading through their base/ roots. Maybe seeds too I don't know. But they clump, and you can cut a clump off and transplant it easily.

If you have dogs at all, I would get rid of all of them and encourage your neighbors too also. I know multiple people that have lost dogs to them, they are very toxic. One friend supposedly caught their dog chewing up some of the chips from him cutting it back/ down. Dog didn't survive. That was what I was told, but all accounts say they are very dangerous. It's not just one of those plants that makes your dog shite, it's very deadly.

It's the pods that sago palms produce that are deadly. Doesn't matter if it's not in the yard. I don't even have a sago in my yard yet one of our dogs ate a pod and miraculously was saved by the vet. A squirrel or bird can drop a pod within reach of your dog and if he or she eats it there's a very short window to save it's life. Not a cheap vet bill either!

Tell her it’s not coming back and use it an an excuse to rip that SOB out and set fire to anything left in the hole that will burn. Worthless POS plants, in the trifecta with sweet gums and #1 ranked Chinese elms as the worst trees to have in your landscape.
