Got a little trip planned, looking to purchase an O/U. Need some recommendation of a very guns to shoulder and swing in the sub $1000 price range.

In your price range, used Citori.

Go to Cabelas, ignore the prices on the guns and hold and swing them all. Note what guns feel good, the gauge and barrel length, then get back with us...

After the floods, my grandfather gave me his Ruger red Label. I love it. It pulls up nicely, is well balanced. I really do not have a single complaint about it.

No, but I figured you could pick one up for that price. Mine have already been promised to my kids when I'm done with them.

There's half a dozen shotguns I could go pick up brand new in that range, looking for people who have those guns and what their impressions of said gun. Potential horror stories of do not buy, to best purchase I've ever made.

Used is definitely a strong possibility

I did have a stoeger first. Hated it. Felt good, swung well. Had constant problems with it not firing. The gun store I got it from could not figure out why and after going back to the manufacturer twice, they gave me my money back and I got the ruger. No ragrets on the ruger.

I bought my two Citori lightnings used about 28 years ago. They are both 1984 jap models. They are the two most balanced shotguns I own, by far. Originally they were chambered for 2 3/4 but I had them bored out. I've owned a few other cheaper O/U's and they didn't come close to comparing.

Where are you taking your trip to and what are you planning on doing with the gun after?

If you are planning on using it for upland hunting in Louisiana, I would strongly suggest not getting a very nice one. My gun has been beat to shite over the past few years hunting for woodcock in LA. I recently purchased the Yildiz O/U 20 ga. for around $400 and really like it. Plus I don't care how much of a beating it's going to take since it wasn't too expensive.

Don't buy a Stoeger Condor. Thumbs up to all of the other guns on that list.
