I have decided that I need a handgun for the household. I have rifles but no handguns.

I live about a mile from the Glock USA factory and they are very good at supporting Glock's that you bring in to them. Because of this, I would like to buy a USA Glock for myself and my wife to use. She is 90 lbs so not sure that anything above a 9mm would be applicable.

I am going to be shopping at Adventure Outdoors. Their semi-auto handguns are here. What would you suggest? Cost isn't an issue and this is strictly for home defense and fun.

Anything you see that I should ask to handle before renting one in the range?

Go shoot as many different guns as you can and get the one you like best. Same for your wife. Lots of options on the market And a gun is like a pair of shoes. Get the one that fits you best. One size doesn’t always fit all.

Good luck.

Glocks are known as the most reliable pistols in the world. I trust my life with one. The Glock 19 is their most popular model with civilians and law enforcement. It is chambered in 9mm and holds 15 rounds. You cannot go wrong with it

Awesome. Would a petite woman fit with this? I plan on getting personalized pistols for each of us, but out of the gate want something functional for both of us.

She want's to go to this gun shops valentines night which is $50 for an hour of range time, then two new york strips and a bottle of wine. I did well

ETA: for the personalized firearm, thinking a revolver may be a good way to go for her.

Every girl I've dated has left our relationship with a glock 19 and knowing how to shoot.

Good guns.

I prefer the older grip design for my hand.

Yes, if she has never shot a pistol before, I would start her with a .22lr and move to 9mm when she’s comfortable.

I've fondled a gen 5 glock 19 with factory tritium sights and it was IMO the perfect polymer pistol. I think it was $100 more than the standard model and would be well worth that. Great trigger. It would be my first choice for a glock with everything else being wayyyyy behind

Wheel guns are extremely reliable. Their downfall is capacity. Many only hold 6 rounds

Better idea would be for her to decide what is good for her. Idiocy behind thinking women, regardless of stature, can't handle certain types of firearm is something you should work on first. My fiancée has my old H&K USP45 and handles it just fine. Full size semi-auto handguns are easier to manipulate the slide on and tame recoil better.

This couldn’t be further from the truth.

H&K VP9 has much better ergos and a way better trigger than a Glock.

A Glock can be fixed to have a better trigger and it isn’t expensive or hard to do. Just need a spring kit with a connector.

ETA: I have several glocks including polymer 80s.

Glock 19

I would also look at the CZ P-10c and HK VP9

I'll add usually heavier recoil, worse triggers and any short barreled version isnt accurate unless you spend a lot of time shooting.

No way I would ever recommend a revolver over todays semi autos.

glock with micro red dot and light (often overlooked, it'll be dark most likely, remember thar) is the perfect house pistol.

the 19x would be my choice w/ out red dot and gen5 MOS w/ red dot.

Is she going to carry it? Or is this staying home?

The carries a 17, not concealed, shes never complained about it.

I've seen it countless times. If there is one handgun that MOST women and children will shoot better than any other, it is a 4" barrel S&W Model 10 (the original M&P). Every woman will say that she likes this gun or that gun. Let her shoot a few, then put a real M&P in her hands loaded with wadcutters and she will most likely be far more accurate with those 6 rounds than she will be with a mag full in a Glock, VP9, new M&P or whatever else. There's always the exception, but my money would be on the Model 10 everytime.

You can't possibly say that a revolver has a worse trigger than a Glock, unless you really have no experience with decent revolvers.

Like many others have said, goto a range and try different ones out. If you plan on sticking with Glock i'd suggest the 17 if you have no plans to carry and want it for home defense mainly. Full frame is easier to manage the recoil. If she doesn't like the full frame the 19 would be the next to try out.

They are extremely reliable pistols, i have quite a few of them and never had a single issue with any of them
