From a recommendation from the OB in the last thread like this, I read "A Land Remembered" by Patrick Smith and it was a great book.
also, from the same thread i bought "Open Season" by CJ Box. Its supposed to be a great book but after the first few chapters, i havent picked it up again

I own it, but couldn't get into it. that's probably because I'm not much of a turkey hunter.

The Longhorns
By: J. Frank Dobie

It's a collection of short stories and the history of Texas Longhorn cattle. It begins with the Spanish Explorers who bought the cattle to the Americas. Then it carries the history through real cowboys and their relationship with the cattle on trail drives of the 1800's(i.e. The Chisolm Trail, Dodge City, KS). All the way to a point of near extinction around the turn of the century up until the 1950's.

It's not as outdoorsy, but it's a darn interesting read if you are in to old west history. It's a manly book...

A Sand County Almanac. But you may want to skip to the second section.

It's actually a very good book. I had to read it for a class at LSU and that was years ago. I need to reread to brush up on my poaching skills.

The one thing I never forgot was to only shoot once so they can't pinpoint where the shot came from. Also learned how to set a snare for deer.

It has a nice little section dedicated to a certain Catahoula Parish outlaw.
