Personally more worried about the black widows that are fricking everywhere right now, have killed close to a dozen in the past week or so.

I opened my compost bin a couple of weeks ago and the biggest damn black widow I've ever seen came charging out of it. Told my wife and daughter to avoid the bin and fumigated it with Raid 2 or 3 times since. I still open it with caution.

I don't know why Black Widow bites are rarely fatal and a lot less painful than Brown recluse bites.

An old one, but not necessarily 18.

From what I've read, a new segment gets added to the rattle every time the skin gets shed. This can occur more than once a year.

Momma did fine work. She didn't even mess up the hide. Now if she'll cook it, you'll know you've got a keeper.

When I was a kid, BR got me in the upper back, rotted out a place bout the size of a 50 cent piece. I never knew it was back there until my mother fainted..

Two different types of envenomation.

Brown recluse bites are typically painless. The resulting tissue self-destruction is painful and scaring though and can result in systemic symptoms from secondary infection of the necrotic tissue.

Black Widow bites are usually painful, result in a red throbbing painful site and systemic symptoms of headache, nausea, vomiting, and can progress to rigor, dehydration, and in rare cases death.
