I trapped a coon 2 nights in a row. One male and a female. I have an outside cat on the farm and we are going to be gone for 2 weeks and they've been raiding his food.

So anyway, we used to eat them back in Missouri when I was young. Parboil then bake covered. Any of you baws eat coon meat?

Never had it but would try. Better know what you're doing when cleaning. I believe they have some nasty glands.

This is my brother’s favorite meat. We trapped heavily as kids, when you could get $35 for the skin, and Salvation Army would give us $5 for the meat in Alec, had to leave one paw( lol, don’t ask). Made so much money as kids, but it was work; allowed us to buy our own cars, etc. one day we asked about that $5 meat, and if it was any good. So my brother took the advice and started cooking some in the smoker, bbq sauce, spices. It’s legit….

Yeah it's a pain but I have a problem with just ditching anything. Not bad meat. My grandpa grew up dirt poor so my family has always cooked them up.

Yes they do and you don't want to puncture them when removing them. I've had coon several times in the past, always bakes and with sweet potatoes on the side-----good stuff.

Haven't eaten it in years though, but would not hesitate to eat it again if given the opportunity.

Grilled. This is what you want to do with it.

The Appalachian mountain folk generally slow braise and/or pressure cook them into something that ends up like pulled pork and/or Brunswick stew. Served with taters and biscuits and lima beans and whatnot.

Inject it with some flavor and grill or deep fry it.

One of the most important nights of the year for me when I was a wee lad was going to my cousins house to watch LSU/Bama on their black and white tv, and eat baked coon and sweet taters.

I’ll eat almost anything but the coon I once tried was nasty. Maybe they forgot to remove the glands. I’d try it again if I knew it was handled properly.

Properly cleaned and boiled in a fairly weak crab boil solution until tender then bbq. It’s damn good when done this way.

Old man I used to go to church with when I was a boy was a big coon hunter. He’d usually bring a smoked one when we’d have one of those “wild game dinners”. I remember that it was pretty good, but a little “greasy”.
